Learn from me, learn from me. Allah has ordained another way for them (women who commit illegal sexual intercourse). (If) a virgin (commits adultery) with a virgin, (the punishment will be) one hundred lashes and exile for a year. (If) a non-virgin (commits adultery) with a non-virgin, (the punishment will be) one hundred lashes and stoning (to death) When Mā‘iz ibn Mālik came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) (in order to confess adultery), the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Probably you have only kissed, winked, or looked (at the lady)? He said: No, O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: using no euphemism: Did you copulate with her? The narrator added: At that, (i.e. after his confession) the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be stoned (to death) Verily Allah sent Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth and sent the Book down to him. Part of what was revealed to him was the verse on stoning. We recited, understood, and comprehended it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) did administer stoning and we administered it after his death The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) beat and exiled, Abu Bakr beat and exiled, and ‘Umar beat and exiled The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the effeminate men and the masculine women. He said: Turn them out of your houses ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When my vindication was revealed, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got up onto the pulpit, mentioned what happened, and recited (the verses of the Qur'an that had been revealed) Hilāl ibn Umayyah went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and accused his wife of committing illegal sexual intercourse with Sharīk ibn Sahmā'. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Either you provide proof, or you will receive the legal punishment on your back If somebody slanders his slave and the slave is innocent of what he says, he will be flogged on the Day of Judgment unless the slave really is as he described him May Allah curse the thief who steals an egg and his hand is cut off for that, and he steals a rope and his hand is cut off for that Cutting (off hands) does not apply to a traitor, an usurper, or an embezzler The hand is not to be cut off for taking fruit or Kathar (the pith of the palm-tree) Whatever a needy person eats without putting any in his pocket (and taking it away), there is no penalty on him. But whoever takes something away, he must pay a fine of twice its value and receive punishment. Whoever steals something after it has been stored properly, and its value amounts to the price of a shield, his hand must be cut off I was sleeping in the mosque while covered by a Khamīsah cloak of mine whose price was thirty dirhams. A man came and snatched it away from me. The man was seized and brought to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) who ordered that his hand should be cut off A man who had drunk alcohol was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he gave the man about forty lashes with two palm branches When anyone of you beats his brother, he should avoid the face Allah sent down the verse wherein He prohibited alcohol at a time when there was no other (intoxicant) drink in Madīnah except that prepared from dates Raisins used to be soaked for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in a water skin, and he would drink it that day, the next day, and the following day. In the evening of the third day, he would drink it and give some to others. If anything was left, he would spill it It is not a medicine, but an ailment Forgive the people of good qualities their slips, but not faults to which prescribed corporal punishments apply ‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I would not blame myself for the death of any person when inflicting a prescribed corporal punishment on him, with the exception of the one who drinks alcohols, for if he were to die (when being punished), I would pay blood money to his family, because no punishment has been fixed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) for him O Khālid, after me, events, trials, and divergence will occur. So if you can be the servant of Allah who is killed, and not the one killing, then do so ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked for the permission of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to make Jihad, so he said: Your Jihad is pilgrimage Go back to them and seek their permission. If they give you permission, you can engage in Jihad, otherwise, be dutiful to them I am not responsible for any Muslim who stays among the polytheists Hijrah will not cease so long as the disbelievers are being fought Whenever the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) intended to carry out a battle, he would use an equivocation to conceal his real destination till it was the battle of Tabūk Go back, for I will not seek help from a polytheist ‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I will be the first to kneel before the Most-Merciful on the Day of Resurrection for the dispute The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) obtained the freedom of two Muslim men in captivity in exchange for a man from the polytheists I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) give a quarter (of the war spoils) as extra booty on the way out to a battle and a third on the way back We used to get honey and grapes (as spoils) and eat them without bringing them (to the Prophet or the one in charge of distributing the spoils) We got some food on the Day of Khaybar. A man would come and take the amount he needed from it then go away Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not ride a mount belonging to the spoils of Muslims and then returns it when it becomes skinny out of exhaustion. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not wear a garment belonging to the spoils of the Muslims and then returns it when it is worn out The Muslims are like one hand against all those who are outside the community. Their blood and wealth are equal (in terms of inviolability). The protection granted by the lowest of them in status is to be honored by all Muslims, and the Muslims return (the spoils of war) to the farthest of them I will certainly expel the Jews and the Christians from the Arabian Peninsula until only Muslims are left in it We went to the battle of Khaybar along with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and got spoils there. The Messenger of Allah divided them among us and placed the rest of them with the booty We received a letter from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb one year before his death. He said: Cancel every marriage between unmarriageable relatives from among the Magians The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent Khālid ibn al-Walīd to Ukaydir of Dūmah. He (Ukaydir) was seized and brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who spared his life and made a peace treaty with him on condition that they should pay Jizyah Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Yemen and commanded me to collect a Tabī‘ (one-year-old calf) or Tabī‘ah (one-year-old cow) (as Zakah) for every 30 cows, a Musinnah (two-year-old cow) for every 40 cows, and a dinar for every non-Muslim who has reached the age of puberty or its equivalent in clothes Islam is to prevail and is not to be prevailed over The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would hold horse races and would prefer the stronger horses for the longer distances Competitions with prizes are allowed only in camel racing, horse racing, and shooting arrows Indeed, power is in shooting. Indeed, power is in shooting. Indeed, power is in shooting Are hyenas a type of game (animal)? Jābir replied: Yes The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade riding the camel that feeds on dung as well as drinking its milk Umm Hufayd, Ibn ‘Abbās's aunt, sent some dried yogurt, ghee (butter), and a mastigure (sand lizard) to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift If you shoot your arrow and it disappears from sight and you find it later, you may eat it (the game) unless it smells bad Some people said: O Messenger of Allah, meat was brought to us by some people, and we are not sure whether the name of Allah has been mentioned on it or not. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mention the name of Allah upon it and eat it Who has done this? May Allah curse whoever has done this. Verily, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) invoked curse upon whoever makes any living creature a target of shooting A woman slaughtered a sheep with a sharp stone. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it and he ordered that it be eaten The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing an animal by tying it up and taking aim at it We asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about the fetus (of edible animals). He said: Eat it if you wish, for it is considered legally slaughtered with the slaughtering of its mother Whoever can afford it but does not offer a sacrifice, let him not come near our prayer place In the year of Al-Hudaybiyah, we slaughtered with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) a camel on behalf of seven persons and a cow on behalf of seven persons The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered a ram for Al-Hasan and a ram for Al-Husayn for their ‘Aqīqah The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to slaughter two similar sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl (at their birth) A child is held in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah which should be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth, and he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved This verse: {Allah does not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths} [Sūrat al-Baqarah: 225] was revealed concerning saying: "No, by Allah" and "Yes, by Allah" Verily, Allah has ninety-nine names, one-hundred minus one. Whoever memorizes them all will enter Paradise The expiation for a vow is the same as the expiation for an oath You will eagerly seek out a position of authority, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Judgment. How excellent is the wet nurse, and how evil is the weaning one If a judge issues a ruling, having tried his best to decide correctly, and his ruling is right, he will have a double reward, but if he issues a ruling, having tried his best to decide correctly, and his ruling is wrong, he will have a single reward A people who appointed a woman to be in charge of their affairs will never succeed If Allah, the Exalted, puts anyone in the position of authority over the affairs of Muslims and he secludes himself, not meeting their needs, deficiencies, and poverty; Allah will keep Himself away from him, not fulfilling his needs, deficiencies, and poverty Shall I not inform you who the best witness is? He is the one who gives his testimony before he is asked for it The testimony of a Bedouin against a city dweller is not permissible The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) issued judgments based on an oath and a witness The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) suggested to some people that they should take an oath. When they hurried to do so, he said that lots should be cast to decide which of them should take the oath Anyone who takes a false oath at this pulpit of mine, even concerning a green tooth-stick, will surely occupy his seat in Hell Whoever manumits a Muslim, Allah will save from Hell each organ of his body for each organ of him If anyone gets possession of a relative who is within the prohibited degrees (of marriage), that person becomes free Safīnah said: I was Umm Salāmah’s slave, and she said: I will free you on condition that you serve the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) for as long as you live A slave who has entered into an agreement to purchase his freedom remains a slave as long as a dirham of the agreed price remains to be paid A Muslim cannot inherit from a disbeliever nor can a disbeliever inherit from a Muslim People of two different religions do not inherit from one another If anyone leaves behind a debt or a helpless family, I shall be responsible. But if anyone leaves wealth, it goes to his heirs. I am the heir of him who has none, paying blood money on his behalf and inheriting from him. And a maternal uncle is the heir of him who has none, paying blood money on his behalf and inheriting from him A newborn who cries after birth is entitled to inheritance The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you, and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them Whoever meets Allah without associating partners with Him will enter Paradise, and whoever meets Him while associating partners with Him will enter Hellfire Indeed, Allah will distinguish a man from my Ummah before all of creation on the Day of Judgment O Messenger of Allah, I left no minor or major sin without committing it." He said: "Do you not testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah? for he did not ever say: My Lord, forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment We find within ourselves thoughts that one of us would find too grave to talk about." He said: "Have you experienced that?" They said: 'Yes'. He said: "That is the clear faith praise be to Allah Who reduced his plotting to whispering Actions are of six types and people are of four: two imperatives, one and its equal reward, one good deed with ten times as much reward, and one good deed with a seven-hundred-fold reward The hypocrite is like a ewe which goes to and fro between two flocks: going once to one and another time to the other Among the portents of the Hour is that knowledge will be taken away, ignorance will prevail, adultery will spread, drinking alcohol will be common, and men will decrease in number while women will increase so much that for fifty women there will only be one man to look after them The Hour will not come until you fight the Jews: until the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say: O Muslim, this is a Jew behind me; kill him The Hour will not come until the sun rises from the west, and when it rises and people see it, they will all believe I will be at the Cistern so that I see who among you will come to me. But some people will be barred from reaching me. Thereupon, I will say: 'O Lord, they belong to me and my Ummah By the One in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, its vessels will outnumber the stars in the sky and its planets Everything is decreed, even incapacity and capacity, or capacity and incapacity If Allah decreed that someone should die in a certain land, He makes for him a reason to go there I am Dimām ibn Tha‘labah, from the brothers of Banu Sa‘d ibn Bakr The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned something and said: "That will be at the time when knowledge disappears Neither believe nor disbelieve the People of the Book but say: {We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us Allah has given a parable: a straight path The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) received divine revelation at the age of forty The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) did not know where Surahs were to be separated until "In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful" was revealed to him He who recites the Qur’an openly is like he who gives charity openly, and he who recites the Qur’an secretly is like he who gives charity secretly Is He Who is able to make them walk on their feet not able enough to make them walk upon their faces on the Day of Resurrection? Whoever causes harm will be harmed by Allah, and whoever causes hardship will be put in hardship by Allah Verily, Allah loves the servant who is pious, free of wants, and inconspicuous The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would not refuse a gift of perfume Whoever acquires a branch of the knowledge of astrology acquires a branch of magic, of which he acquires more as long as he continues to do so There should not remain any necklace of string or any other kind of necklace around the necks of camels without being cut That is a word pertaining to the truth which a jinn snatches and whispers into his friend's ears as a hen does. Then, they mix it with more than a hundred lies The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the sermon of need We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to listen and obey at times of hardship and ease, energy and reluctance, and to endure if prejudice is held against us If someone comes to you seeking to undermine your solidarity or disrupt your unity when you have agreed on one man, kill him Go and say to him: You are not from the people of Hellfire but from the people of Paradise {Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.} There will be in the latter time of my Ummah people who will narrate what neither you nor your fathers have heard. Beware of them Write down; for by the One in Whose Hand my soul is, nothing comes out of it except the truth I came to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention of embracing Islam. He commanded me to take a bath with water and the leaves of a lote tree O people, I only did this so that you can follow my example and learn my prayer.' When you hear the Adhan (call to prayer), repeat what the Muezzin says Among the most wicked people are those who will be alive when the Hour comes, and those who take the graves as places of worship certainly admit him into Paradise, regardless of the deeds which he has done Indeed, Allah Almighty forbids you to swear by your forefathers The Hour will not be established until a man would pass by the grave of another man and say: 'I wish I were in his place.' The Hour will not be established until the time is shortened Whoever tells a lie about me intentionally, let him take his seat in Hellfire We said: You are our master. He said: "The Master is Allah." We said: And the best of us in superiority and the greatest among us in bounty. He said: "Say what you have to say, or part of what you have to say, but do not let the devil deviate you (in praising me) O uncle, say: La ilāha illallāh (there is no god but Allah), a word with which I can defend you before Allah The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said about the Ansār (Supporters): "No one loves them except a believer, and no one hates them except a hypocrite. Allah loves whoever loves them and hates whoever hates them and performed ablution like that of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in front of them The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to take a ritual bath from one pot when we were both Junub (in a state of major ritual impurity). During my menses, he would order me to put on a lower garment, and he would fondle me I gave the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a pledge to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to pay Zakah, to hear and obey, and to give sincere advice to every Muslim Fear Allah your Lord, pray your five, fast your month, give the Zakah due on your wealth, obey your rulers, and you will enter your Lord's Paradise Direct me to a deed that will make me enter Paradise if I do it. He said: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed prayer, pay the obligatory Zakah, and fast Ramadān So, for what should we give you the pledge of allegiance? He said: "To worship Allah and not associate any partners with Him; the five prayers; to obey - and he said in a low tone - and to not ask people for anything A man's prayer in congregation is twenty-something degrees higher than his prayer in his house and market There is nothing heavier on the believer's scale on the Day of Judgment than good morals. Indeed, Allah detests the one who is indecent and foulmouthed The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, and we said: O Messenger of Allah, we have learned how to greet you, but how should we invoke the blessings of Allah upon you? By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, you will follow the ways of those before you A man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and talked to him about some matter and then said: It is as Allah wills and you will. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you make me an equal to Allah? Say: 'It is as Allah alone wills.' Say: La ilāha illallāhu wahdahu la sharīka lah, Allāhu akbar kabīra, wa al-hamdulillāhi kathīra, subhānallāhi Rabbi al-‘ālamīn, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billāhi al-‘azīz al-hakīm (There is no god but Allah, alone with no partner. Allah is the Greatest with all greatness, and abundant praise is due to Allah. Allah, the Lord of the worlds, is exalted above imperfection. There is no might nor power except with Allah, the Mighty and the All-Wise) The example of a believer who recites the Qur'an is like that of a citron; it smells and tastes good. And the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like that of a date; it has no smell and tastes good There are certain things, the sayer of which – or the performer of which – after every prescribed prayer will never be disappointed: Tasbīh (saying 'Subhānallāh') thirty-three times, Tahmīd (saying 'Al-hamdulillāh') thirty-three times, and Takbīr (saying 'Allāhu Akbar') thirty-four times The son of Adam tells a lie against Me and he has no right to do so; and he insults Me and has no right to do so There are two types of the dwellers of Hellfire whom I have not seen: people with whips like the tails of cows with which they beat people, and women who will be dressed yet naked, inviting to evil, and they themselves are inclined to it After becoming pure (from menstruation), we would not consider brownish and yellowish discharges to be of any significance Wait for as long as your menstrual period normally stops you, and then take a ritual bath Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every pubescent male Muslim, and cleaning the teeth with the tooth-stick and applying perfume if available Perform ‘Umrah when Ramadan comes, for ‘Umrah in it is equivalent to Hajj O Messenger of Allah, we consider Jihad the best deed; should we not perform Jihad? He said, "No; rather, the best Jihad is Mabrūr (accepted) Hajj Whoever fights so that the word of Allah be supreme is indeed in the cause of Allah Indeed, I have not asked you to swear because I suspect you, but Jibrīl (Gabriel) came and told me that Allah Almighty is boasting about you before the angels Straighten your rows, for indeed, straightening the row is from the perfection of the prayer Let not a believing man hate a believing woman. If he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he arrived at the dump of some people and passed urine while standing Shall I tell you something about the Anti-Christ that no prophet has ever told his people? Verily, he is one-eyed and will bring with him something like Paradise and Hellfire When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, he used to spread out his hands until the whiteness of his armpits would be visible The best dinar a man spends is a dinar that he spends on his dependents, and a dinar that a man spends on his mount in the cause of Allah, and a dinar that he spends on his companions in the cause of Allah Manner of performing Ghusl (ritual bath) from Janābah (major ritual impurity) Verily, you will follow those before you, span by span and cubit by cubit There is no contagion, nor is there any evil omen in birds, nor is there any evil omen in the owl, nor is there any evil omen in Safar, and run away from the leper as you would run away from the lion When people see an oppressor but do not stop him, Allah will soon overwhelm them with a punishment from Him He will succeed if he proves to be truthful May his nose be rubbed in dust, then may his nose be rubbed in dust, and may his nose be rubbed in dust." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, who? He said: "The one whose parents, one of them or both, reach old age in his life yet he does not enter Paradise Al-Mufarridūn have gone far ahead When a Muslim is questioned in the grave, he testifies that no deity is worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah that a woman was found killed in one of the expeditions of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and so the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) denounced killing women and boys forbade vowing and said: "Indeed, it does not bring any good; rather it is only a means to extract something from the miser Whoever wears silk in the life of this world will not wear it in the Hereafter Among the best of Jihad is to speak a word of justice to an oppressive ruler A man asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): "When is the Hour?" He said: "What have you prepared for it? There is no god but Allah. Woe to the Arabs from an impending evil. Today, an opening has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog, like this, The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was more bashful than a virgin in her boudoir. Whenever he saw something he disliked, we could perceive that on his face Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will make him reach the status of martyrs even if he dies on his bed 'A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into Hellfire, and his intestines will slip out and he will go around by them like a donkey goes around a millstone This is a stone that was thrown into Hellfire seventy years ago and it was falling into Hellfire until it reached its bottom Whoever equips a fighter in the cause of Allah has indeed taken part in the fight himself; and whoever looks after the dependents of a fighter in his absence properly has indeed taken part in the fight himself He who is deprived of gentleness is deprived of goodness He who performs ablution properly and then comes to the Friday prayer and listens to it attentively and keeps silent, his sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven, with the addition of three more days Let me guide you to something better than what you asked for. When you go to bed, say ‘Subhān Allah' (glory be to Allah) thirty-three times, ‘Alhamdulillāh' (praise be to Allah) thirty-three times, and ‘Allāhu Akbar' (Allah is the Most Great) thirty-four times. This is better for you than a servant The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of people, and he used to be more generous than ever in Ramadan when Gabriel (Jibrīl) would meet him Whoever swears by Al-Lāt and Al-‘Uzza should say: 'There is no god but Allah'. And whoever says to his companion 'Come and gamble with me' should give charity Do you know who the bankrupt is? There is none among you except that Allah will speak to him, with no interpreter between Him and him Whoever reports a Hadīth on my authority that is thought to be false is one of the two liars When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque, he would say: "a‘ūdhu billāhi al-‘azhīm wa biwajhihi al-karīm wa sultānihi al-qadīm min ash-shaytān ar-rajīm" (I seek refuge in Allah, the Majestic, and in His noble Countenance, and in His eternal dominion, from the accursed devil) Allah Almighty will say to the one receiving the least torment in Hellfire: 'If everything on earth was yours, would you ransom yourself with it?' He will say: 'Yes Allah Almighty will say to the dwellers of Paradise: 'O people of Paradise!' They will reply: 'O our Lord, we present ourselves and are at Your pleasure.' He will say: ‘Are you contented?’ They will say: 'How could we not be contented, O Lord, when You have given us what You have not given to any of Your creation?' There is no Muslim who performs ablution well and then stands and prays two Rak‘ahs while focused on them with his heart and his face, except that Paradise will be guaranteed for him Do not swear by Tawāghi (idols) nor by your fathers The best of the men's rows is the first, and the worst is the last, and the best of the women's rows is the last, and the worst is the first These two prayers are the most burdensome of all prayers for the hypocrites.
