‘Amr ibn Sulaym al-Ansāri reported: I testify that Abu Sa‘īd said: "I testify that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every pubescent male Muslim, and (also) cleaning the teeth with the tooth-stick, and applying perfume if available.'"
Sahih/Authentic. - [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Explanation

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I testify that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said", meaning: I am reporting to you from the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) something that is sure and certain, and whose veracity is unquestionable. It is that he said: "Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every pubescent male Muslim", meaning: bathing on Friday is a confirmed duty for every male Muslim who has reached the age of puberty, whether he had sexual intercourse or not, and whether he was in the state of Janābah or not. There is another Hadīth, however, that makes bathing on Friday not obligatory. It is the Hadīth where Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution on Friday, then it is good and enough, and whoever takes a bath, that is better (for him)", meaning: whoever performs ablution only on Friday has chosen the concession, and it is acceptable and what an excellent concession it is! And whoever bathes, then bathing is better because it is a recommended act of Sunnah. "And applying perfume if available", meaning: let him use any type of perfume.
