When Ibrahīm died, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is a wet nurse for him in Paradise Every nation has an extremely trustworthy man, and the most trustworthy man of this Ummah is Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrāh The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wore two coats of mail. He tried to rise over a boulder, but he could not. Then Talhah bowed down and lifted the Prophet, so he could settle on the boulder. He then heard the Prophet saying: It is obligatory for Talhah Every prophet had a disciple and my disciple is Az-Zubayr Az-Zubayr is the son of my paternal aunt and a disciple among my followers On seeing Sa‘d coming, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is my maternal uncle. Is there anyone who has an uncle like him? I never saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ask that his parents be sacrificed for anyone after Sa‘d. I heard him say: Shoot your arrow, may my mother and father be sacrificed for you I am concerned about your [my wives] lives and affairs after my death. None will be forbearing towards you (provide for you), except the patient ones O Allah, make him a guide who is rightly guided, and guide others through him Never was ‘Ammār given a choice between two matters except that he chose the one that is more rightly-guided The two sons of al-‘Ās are believers: ‘Amr and Hishām When Allah intends to take a slave in a (particular) land, He gives him a reason to go there When Allah wills good for a slave, He uses him before he dies They spoke the truth. They are tormented, and their torment can be heard by all animals It has been revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves with a trial close to that of the Anti-Christ This Ummah will be tested in their graves. Were it not that you would not bury one another, I would supplicate Allah to make you hear what I hear of the torment of the grave The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) went out after the sun had set. He heard a sound and then said: The Jews are being tormented in their graves Describing part of the bliss of the grave and its torment The bliss and torment of the grave in the Hadīth of Al-Barā' ibn ‘Āzib Once, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stood at the top of one of the forts of Madīnah looking down and said: Do you see what I see? Verily, I see the trials that occur in the midst of your houses as plenty as the raindrops that fall (during heavy rain) Count six signs that indicate the approach of the Hour The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My advent and the Hour are like these," and he pointed with his two fingers The Hour will not be established until a fire comes out of the land of Hejaz and throws light on the necks of camels in Busra There would be a caliph in the last (period) of my Ummah who would freely give handfuls of wealth to the people without counting it You will invade the Arabian Peninsula and Allah will conquer it; then Persia and Allah will conquer it; then you will attack the Byzantines and Allah will conquer them; then you will attack the Anti-Christ and Allah will conquer him Two groups of my Ummah Allah shall protect from the Fire: a group that invades India and a group that will be with ‘Īsa ibn Maryam (peace be upon both of them) The Hour will not be established until you fight the Turks, who have small eyes, red faces, and flat noses. Their faces look like hammered shields. Again, the Hour will not be established until you fight people wearing shoes made of hair The Hour will not appear until you fight the non-Arab Khudh and Kirman. They are red faced, flat nosed, and small eyed. Their faces are like shields coated with leather and their shoes are made of hair By Him in Whose hand is my soul, a time would come upon the people when the killer would not know why he killed and the victim would not know why he was killed Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) performed one of the afternoon prayers (the sub-narrator Muhammad said: "I think that it was most probably the ‘Asr prayer") and he finished it after offering two Rak‘ahs only. He then stood near a piece of wood in front of the mosque and put his hand on it. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar were amongst those who were present, but they dared not talk to him about it (because of being awed by him), and those who were in a hurry went out. They said: "Has the prayer been reduced?" A man who was called Dhu al-Yadayn by the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the Prophet): "Has the prayer been reduced or have you forgotten?" He said: "Neither have I forgotten, nor has the prayer been reduced." He said: "Certainly you have forgotten." So the Prophet offered two more Rak‘ahs and ended the prayer with Taslīm. Then he said Takbīr and performed a prostration like his ordinary prostration or a bit longer. Then he raised his head and said Takbīr. Then he put his head down and performed a prostration like his ordinary prostration or a bit longer. Then he raised his head and said Takbīr.' [Al-Bukhāri] If there was any change to the prayer, I would surely inform you; but I am a human being like you and liable to forget like you. So if I do forget, remind me, and if anyone of you is doubtful about his prayer, he should follow what he thinks to be correct and complete his prayer accordingly, make Taslīm, and then offer two prostrations Al-Mughīrah ibn Shu‘bah led us in prayer, and he stood up directly after offering the second Rak‘ah (without sitting for Tashahhud), so we said: "Glory be to Allah" whereupon he said: "Glory be to Allah" and continued with the prayer. When he completed his prayer and ended it with Taslīm, he made two prostrations of forgetfulness. When he left the prayer, he said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) do as I did. For each forgetfulness (in prayer) there are two prostrations after making Taslīm Abu Hurayrah recited Sūrat al-Inshiqāq and then prostrated. After he finished the prostration, he told them that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) had prostrated when he recited it The prostration of Sūrah Sād is not a compulsory one but I saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prostrating while reciting it I recited before the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) Sūrat An-Najm and he did not prostrate in it I said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): Are there two prostrations in Sūrat al-Hajj? He said: Yes, and whoever does not perform them should not read them ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Sūrat An-Nahl on the pulpit during the Friday sermon, and when he reached the verse of prostration, he got down and prostrated, and so did the people Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) received good news, he would fall down in prostration out of gratitude to Allah Jibrīl (peace be upon him) came to me and gave me glad tidings saying: “Allah, the Almighty, says: ’Whoever sends blessings on you, I will send blessings on him, and whoever sends greetings of peace to you, I will send greetings of peace to him.'" So I prostrated in thankfulness to Allah The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent Khālid ibn al-Walīd to the people of Yemen to invite them to Islam, but they did not respond to him. Then, the Prophet sent ‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two light Rak‘ahs after the break of dawn May Allah have mercy on whoever offers four Rak‘ahs before the ‘Asr prayer Offer two Rak‘ahs before Maghrib The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two light Rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer, after the Muezzin would finish calling the Adhān and after the break of dawn. Then, he used to lie on his right side until the Muezzin would come to him for the Iqāmah When anyone of you prays two Rak‘ahs before the dawn prayer, he should lie on his right side (Voluntary) prayer in both the day and night is performed two by two The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month, Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night The Witr is due, so whoever wants to pray the Witr as seven (units of prayer), let him do so; whoever wants to pray the Witr as five, let him do so; whoever wants to pray the Witr as three, let him do so; and whoever wants to pray the Witr as one, let him do so Witr is not incumbent like the status of the obligatory prayers, but it is a Sunnah that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) started practicing The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer during the month of Ramadan, offering eight Rak‘ahs as well as the Witr. The next night, we gathered in the mosque and hoped that he would come out to us. However, we remained in the mosque until the morning Indeed, Allah, the Almighty,, has added a prayer for you, so offer it in the period between ‘Ishā' prayer and Fajr prayer; (it is) the Witr, (it is) the Witr O ‘Ā'ishah, indeed, my eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer thirteen Rak‘ah in the night prayer including Witr, plus two (voluntary) Rak‘ahs of the Fajr prayer O ‘Abdullāh, do not be like so-and-so. He used to offer Qiyām al-Layl and then abandoned it O people of the Qur'an, perform the Witr Prayer for, verily, Allah is Witr (single) and loves what is Witr (single, odd) There should not be two Witr prayers during one night Perform Witr prayer before the morning The one who has not prayed the Witr prayer before dawn, then there is no Witr for him If anyone sleeps before praying Witr or forgets it, let him pray it once he remembers it If anyone fears that he will not wake up at the end of the night, let him offer Witr prayer at the beginning of the night; and anyone expects to wake up at the end of the night, let him offer Witr prayer at the end of the night. Indeed, prayer at the end of the night is witnessed (by the angels) and that is better The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer the Duha Prayer as four Rak‘ahs and sometimes as much more as Allah willed Did the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) pray the Duha prayer? She said: No, unless he came back from being away The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would give up a deed, even though he liked to perform it, for fear that people would follow him and perform it, and it would thus become obligatory for them The prayer of the oft-returning to Allah is when weaned camels are bitten by excessive heat Whoever hears the prayer call and does not attend the congregational prayer, then his prayer is not valid (deficient), except if he has an excuse Do not do so. If any of you prays in his house and finds that the Imām has not prayed, he should pray along with him; and that will be a supererogatory prayer for him The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was once riding a horse and fell down from it, injuring his right side Come forward and be close to me and let those who come after you, follow your lead. If people continue to fall behind, Allah puts them behind O people, pray at your homes, for a person’s best prayer is the one he performs at his home except the obligatory prayer I went to ‘Ā’ishah and asked her to describe to me the Messenger's illness. ‘Ā’ishah said: Yes. The Prophet became seriously ill and asked whether the people had prayed. We replied: No, O Messenger of Allah! They are waiting for you O people, you cause aversion to others. Whoever leads people in prayer should make it brief, for among them are the sick, the weak, and those with needs to be fulfilled Offer this prayer at this time and that prayer at that time. When the time for a prayer is due, let one of you call the Adhān, and let the one who knows the Qur’an most lead the prayer The one who is the most versed in Allah's Book should lead the people in prayer O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, make light for me An orphan and I prayed behind the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in our house, and my mother Umm Sulaym was standing behind us May Allah increase your keenness, but do not do that again Umm Waraqah bint ‘Abdullāh ibn al-Hārith al-Ansāri reported that she had memorized the Qur'an, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to lead her household in prayers. There was a Muezzin for her, and she used to lead her household in prayer The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Ibn Umm Maktūm as his successor to lead the people in prayer, and he was blind When one of you joins the prayer and finds the Imām in a certain position, he should do what the Imām is doing When one of you betroths a woman, if he can look at what urges him to marry her, let him do so Go and look at her, for that is more likely to create love between you If Allah casts the desire to engage a woman in the heart of a man, it is Okay for him to look at her Announce marriages A previously-married woman is more entitled to give a decision about her marriage than her guardian, whereas a virgin's permission is to be sought. Her permission is her silence No woman should perform the marriage of another woman, and no woman should perform her own marriage. It is an adulteress who performs her own marriage A virgin girl came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said that her father had married her off although she hated [that marriage]. Therefore, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the choice If a slave marries without his master’s permission, he is a fornicator The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) married Maymūnah when he was in the state of Ihrām and consummated marriage with her when he ended his Ihrām. She died in Sarif The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) married her when he was outside the state of Ihrām The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) allowed temporary marriage for three nights in the year of the battle of Awtās, then he forbade it May Allah curse the Muhallil (a man who marries an irrevocably divorced woman for the sole purpose of making her lawful for her ex-husband to remarry) and the Muhallal lahu (the ex-husband of the woman who was irrevocably divorced, seeking to remarry her through an unlawful marriage) Let a flogged fornicator marry none but his like A man divorced his wife three times, then another man married her and divorced her before consummating the marriage with her. Her first husband wanted to remarry her, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about that. He said: No, not until the second husband tastes of her sweetness what the first one tasted O Banu Bayādah, marry off (your daughters) to Abu Hind, and ask him to marry off (his daughters) to you Loyalty is pledged to the one who did the favor Divorce whomever of them you wish Ghaylān ibn Salamah Ath-Thaqafi embraced Islam and he had ten wives from the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, and they all embraced Islam with him. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him to choose four of them The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned his daughter Zaynab to Abu al-‘Ās ibn Ar-Rabī‘ in marriage after six years without renewing the contract The Jews used to say: If one has sexual intercourse with his wife from her back, then she will deliver a squint-eyed child. So this verse was revealed: {Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish} [Sūrat al-Baqarah: 223] If a man invites his wife to his bed and she refuses, and so he spends the night angry with her, the angels will curse her until the morning I was about to forbid sexual intercourse during the breastfeeding period until I considered that the Romans and the Persians do it without any harm done to their children thereby The Jews say that coitus interruptus is minor infanticide. He said: The Jews told a lie. If Allah intends to create it, you cannot prevent it The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would approach all of his wives and then take one ritual bath I asked ‘Ā'ishah: How much was the dowry paid by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)? She said: His dowry for his wives was twelve Uqiyyahs and one Nashsh ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I married Fātimah (may Allah be pleased with her) so I said: O Messenger of Allah, let me consummate the marriage. He said: Give her something. I said: I have nothing. He said: So where is your Hutami armor? ‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd was asked about a man who had married a woman without specifying a dowry for her and then died before consummating the marriage with her. ‘Abdullāh said: Ask if they can find any report (from the Prophet) regarding that. They said: O Abu ‘Abdur-Rahmān, we cannot find (any report about that). He said: Then I will state my personal opinion, and if it is correct then that is from Allah The easiest marriage is the best marriage If one of you is invited to a wedding banquet, he should attend The worst food is the food of a wedding banquet to which the rich are invited while the poor are left out. Anyone who does not answer the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) If anyone of you is invited, let him answer the invitation. If he is fasting, let him supplicate (for the inviter); if he is not fasting, let him eat The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) held a wedding dinner for his marriage to one of his wives with two Mudds of barley The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stayed for three nights between Khaybar and Madīnah when he married Safiyyah I do not eat while reclining on my side Blessing descends in the middle of the food. So eat from the sides, and do not eat from the middle The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the pot or blowing into it It is a Sunnah for a man who marries a virgin when he already has a wife (who is no longer a virgin) that he stay seven nights with the new wife and then divide his overnight stay between both. If he marries a previously-married woman when he already has a wife (either a virgin or not), the Sunnah is for him to stay with her (the new wife) three nights and then divide his overnight stay between both Indeed, you are not inferior in the sight of your family. If you wish, I can stay seven (nights) with you, but if I stay seven with you, I will also stay seven with my (other) wives the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) allocated two days to ‘Ā’ishah; her own day and that of Sawdah The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not give preference to one of us over the other in terms of his division of the time he spent with us. Every day, except rarely, he used to visit all of us. He would come near each of his wives without having sexual intercourse with her, until he would reach the one whose turn was on that day and he would, thus, stay with her overnight The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) liked sweets and honey, and whenever he finished the ‘Asr prayer, he would visit his wives and stay closely with them, one after another. He once visited Hafsah and remained with her for longer than usual The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to ask in his final illness: Where will I be tomorrow? Where will I be tomorrow? He was looking forward to ‘Ā'ishah's turn [to stay with her]. So, his wives allowed him to stay wherever he wished Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go on a journey, he would cast lots among his wives and would take the one on whom the lot fell Accept (to take back) the garden, and divorce her once The wife of Thābit ibn Qays was separated from her husband by a Khul‘ during the time of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to observe a waiting period of one menstrual cycle The (pronouncement) of three divorces during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and that of Abu Bakr and two years of the caliphate of ‘Umar (was treated) as one ‘Abd Yazīd — the father of Rukānah and his siblings — divorced Umm Rukānah and married a woman from Muzaynah. So the new wife came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: He does not satisfy me except like this hair does Three things are binding regardless of whether they were expressed seriously or jokingly: marriage, divorce, and restoration (of a divorcee) Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If [a man] forbids his wife, this is nothing. He further quoted: {There is in the Messenger of Allah a good example to you} [Sūrat al-Ahzāb: 21] The son of Adam cannot make a vow concerning what is not his; he cannot free a slave who is not his; and he cannot divorce a woman who is not his (wife) You divorced (in a manner that is) against the Sunnah and took back (in a manner that is) against the Sunnah. Call someone to bear witness to her divorce and to her reunion, and do not do that again If a period of four months has passed, the husband should be put in prison so that he divorces his wife, but the divorce does not occur unless the husband himself declares it I have seen more than ten of the Companions of the Messengers of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him); they all stopped the 'Mūli' (the one who swore not to approach his wife intimately) The people of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance would practice Īlā' (take an oath not to have sexual intercourse with their wives) for a duration of one or two years. Then Allah timed the effective duration of this oath A man went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as he made Zhihār against his wife yet had intercourse with her The Hadīth of Salamah ibn Sakhr (may Allah be pleased with him) on Zhihār Watch her, if she gives birth to a white-complexioned child having straight hair and sore eyes, he is the son of Hilāl ibn Umayyah, but if she gives birth to a child with eyes that appear to have antimony in them, curly hair, and thin shanks, then he is the son of Sharīk ibn Sahmā' ‘Uwaymir al-‘Ajlāni went to ‘Āsim ibn ‘Adyy al-Ansāri and asked: O ‘Āsim, tell me, if a man sees his wife (sleeping) with another man, should he kill him, whereupon you will kill him (in retribution), or what should he do? O ‘Āsim, ask the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) about that A man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My wife does not object if anyone touches her. He said: Divorce her. The man said: I am afraid that I will miss her. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then enjoy her If a man acknowledges his paternity of a child (even) for a moment, he has no right to deny it (later) Barīrah was instructed to observe an ‘Iddah of three menstrual cycles No, go and collect the harvest from your trees, for perhaps you will give (some of it in) charity or do a good deed with it Stay in your house until the term (of ‘Iddah) lapses. She said: So I spent my ‘Iddah therein (in her husband's house) for four months and ten days O Messenger of Allah, my husband has divorced me three times and I am afraid that my house will be broken into Do not confuse the Sunnah of our Prophet. The ‘Iddah of a mother-slave girl whose master dies is four months and ten (days) ‘Urwah ibn Az-Zubayr reported from ‘Ā’ishah that she took Hafsah bint ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Abu Bakr As-Siddīq into her house when she was in her third period A slave has two counts of divorce to discharge toward his free wife, who shall observe a waiting period of three menstrual cycles. A free man has two counts of divorce to discharge toward his slave wife, who shall observe a waiting period of two menstrual cycles A woman whose husband is missing and whose whereabouts is unknown to her must wait for four years and then observe the ‘Iddah (of a widow) for four months and ten days. After that, she is allowed to marry Let no man stay the night in the place of a previously married woman unless he is her husband or her Mahram There should be no sexual intercourse with a pregnant woman until she gives birth, nor with a non-pregnant woman until she has one menstrual cycle One or two sucks do not render marriage prohibited Suckle him, and you will become unlawful for him (in marriage), and (the discomfort) which Abu Hudhayfah feels in his heart will disappear It was revealed in the Qur'an that: ten times of breastfeeding known with certainty establish prohibition (Mahram relationship through breastfeeding); then that was abrogated and replaced with five times of breastfeeding known with certainty. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) died while these (words of the abrogating verse) were still being recited as part of the Qur'an No prohibition results from suckling, except for what penetrates the intestines from the breast before weaning The hand which gives is the higher hand. Start with those for whom you are responsible: your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, then the closest in kin and the closest in kin One will be committing a great sin if he withholds sustenance from those whom he should provide for The best charity is that which is given out of richness. The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and let one of you start with those whom he is responsible to provide for Ibn ‘Umar reported that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb wrote to the army commanders about men who stayed for a long time away from their wives. He ordered the [commanders] to charge them to either spend (on their wives) or divorce. If they divorce, they should send the financial support they had withheld You are more entitled to him as long as you do not get married This is your father, and this your mother, so take whichever of them you wish by the hand Hadīth of Rāfi‘ ibn Sinān about giving a child the option to choose between parents who separated upon conversion to Islam When your servant brings you your food, if you do not ask him to join you, then (at least) give him a bite or two, or a mouthful or two, for he was in charge of preparing it A woman was tormented because of a cat which she had kept locked up until it died, and she was thrown into Hell for that. She neither gave it food or drink when she locked it up nor freed it so that it would eat from the vermin of the earth It is unlawful to shed the blood of a Muslim who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, except in one of three cases A father is not to be killed for killing his child ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: Do you have any of the revelation, other than what is in Allah's Book? He said: No, by Him Who grows the grain and originates the soul, I have nothing other than the understanding of the Qur'an, which Allah bestows upon some people, and what is written in this sheet The lives of all Muslims are equal; they are one hand against the others. The covenant (given by even the) lowliest of them must be respected. Behold, a Muslim must not be killed for a disbeliever, nor must one who has been given a covenant be killed while his covenant is still in force. If anyone introduces an evil, he will be responsible for it. Whoever introduces an evil deed or shelters a perpetrator incurs the curse of Allah, His Angels, and all the people A slave belonging to some poor people cut off the ear of another slave belonging to some rich people, so the owners of the perpetrator came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, we are poor. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not stipulate any compensation to be paid by the perpetrator Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded anyone who is wounded not to seek retaliation until his wound heals. When his wound heals, he can seek retaliation Among Allah's slaves, there are some who, if they take an oath by Allah (concerning something), Allah fulfills it Whoever is killed in ambiguous circumstances, or when people are throwing stones, or by a whip, his blood money is the blood money of unpremeditated killing. Whoever is killed intentionally, retaliation becomes due. If anyone tries to prevent it, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a boy was murdered, and ‘Umar said: If all the people of Sanaa took part in it, I would kill them all Whoever intentionally kills a believer shall be handed to the guardians of the killed person: if they will, they may kill him, and if they will, they may accept the blood money. This happens when the devil stirs enmity between people, causing them to shed blood but not due to grudge or carrying weapons in fighting I went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) with my father. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then asked my father: Is this your son? He replied: Yes, by the Lord of the Ka‘bah Whoever is killed in defense of his wealth is a martyr. He said: Turn them out of your houses ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When my vindication was revealed, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got up onto the pulpit, mentioned what happened, and recited (the verses of the Qur'an that had been revealed) Hilāl ibn Umayyah went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and accused his wife of committing illegal sexual intercourse with Sharīk ibn Sahmā'. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Either you provide proof, or you will receive the legal punishment on your back If somebody slanders his slave and the slave is innocent of what he says, he will be flogged on the Day of Judgment unless the slave really is as he described him May Allah curse the thief who steals an egg and his hand is cut off for that, and he steals a rope and his hand is cut off for that Cutting (off hands) does not apply to a traitor, an usurper, or an embezzler The hand is not to be cut off for taking fruit or Kathar (the pith of the palm-tree) Whatever a needy person eats without putting any in his pocket (and taking it away), there is no penalty on him. But whoever takes something away, he must pay a fine of twice its value and receive punishment. Whoever steals something after it has been stored properly, and its value amounts to the price of a shield, his hand must be cut off I was sleeping in the mosque while covered by a Khamīsah cloak of mine whose price was thirty dirhams. A man came and snatched it away from me. The man was seized and brought to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) who ordered that his hand should be cut off A man who had drunk alcohol was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he gave the man about forty lashes with two palm branches When anyone of you beats his brother, he should avoid the face Allah sent down the verse wherein He prohibited alcohol at a time when there was no other (intoxicant) drink in Madīnah except that prepared from dates Raisins used to be soaked for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in a water skin, and he would drink it that day, the next day, and the following day.
