Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah will say to the dwellers of Paradise: 'O people of Paradise!' They will reply: 'O our Lord, we present ourselves and are at Your pleasure, and goodness rests in Your hands.' Then He will say: 'Are you contented?' And they will say: 'How shouldn't we be contented, O Lord, when You have given us what You have not given to any of Your creation?' Then He will say: 'Wouldn't you like Me to give you something better than that?' And they will say: 'O Lord, what is better than that?' He will say: 'I shall descend My favor upon you and thereafter I shall never be displeased with you.'"

Explanation

This Hadīth envisions the conversation that will take place in Paradise between Allah and the believers. It is that Allah will call the believers and ask them after they enter Paradise: "O people of Paradise!" "Our Lord, we respond to you call," they will reply. It means we will answer Your call at all times. "O Lord, we are at your pleasure," they add. This reply means we seek from You your pleasure continuously. 'Goodness rests in your hands," means in Your power. They didn't mention the bad/evil, as it is inappropriate to mention it straightforward. Allah will say to them: "Are you satisfied?'' He refers to the eternal bliss they received. They will say: "Why shouldn't we be contented?!" The question here is to affirm their satisfaction. In other words, "Yes, we are satisfied with what we are given." In another narration it says: "Is there anything better than what we received? We have been given something that none of your creation has been given," whom were not admitted to Paradise. Then Allah will say: "Wouldn't you like something better than that?" They will say: "O Lord, what is better than that?" And He will say: "I shall cause My favor to descend upon you and thereafter shall never be displeased with you." Allah will never be displeased with the inhabitants of Paradise.
