عن عبادة بن الصامت رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم "مَنْ شهِد أنْ لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شرِيك له وأنَّ محمَّدا عبده ورسُولُه، وأنَّ عِيسى عبدُ الله ورسُولُه وكَلِمَتُه أَلقَاها إِلى مريم ورُوُحٌ مِنه، والجنَّة حَقٌّ والنَّار حقٌّ، أَدْخَلَه الله الجنَّة على ما كان مِنَ العمَل".

‘Ubādah ibn As-Sāmit (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah, alone with no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, that ‘Isa is the slave and Messenger of Allah, and His word which He communicated to Maryam, and a spirit from Him; and that Paradise is true and Hell is true, Allah will certainly admit him into Paradise, regardless of the deeds which he has done."

Explanation

This Hadīth tells us that if a person utters the word of monotheism, grasps its meaning, and acts according to it; and bears witness that Muhammad is a slave of Allah and a Messenger from Him; and that ‘Isa is a slave of Allah and a Messenger from Him, and that he was created by saying 'Be,' and through Maryam; and that he declares Maryam innocent of the accusations leveled against her by the hostile Jews; and that he believes that the believers will enter Paradise and the disbelievers will enter Hell; and that dies in this state, he will enter Paradise, no matter which deeds he has performed.

Benefits from the Hadith

  1. The two testimonies of faith are the basis of religion.
  2. It points out the merit of monotheism and that Allah expiates sins thereby.
  3. Allah Almighty possesses immense bounty and benevolence.
  4. The monotheistic belief differs from all creeds of disbelief, like Judaism, Christianity, Paganism, and Materialism.
  5. The testimonies of faith are only valid if one knows their meaning and acts accordingly.
  6. Allah Almighty describes Muhammad as both His servant and Messenger, which refutes those who neglect as well as those who exaggerate his status.
  7. We should avoid negligence and exaggeration with regard to the prophets and pious people such that we neither deny their merit nor exalt them to the extent of devoting some form of worship to them, as some ignorant and misguided people do.
  8. It establishes that ‘Īsa is a servant and Messenger of Allah, which responds to the claim of the Christians that he is the son of Allah.
  9. It establishes that ‘Īsa was born by Mariyam (Mary) through the divine word "Be", without a father, thus responding to the Jews who accused Mariyam of adultery.
  10. Muslim sinners will not abide in Hellfire eternally.
  11. It establishes the attribute of speech for Allah, the Exalted.
