Hadith: I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then he urinated, and performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks

عن حذيفة بن اليمان رضي الله عنهما قال: «كنتُ مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فبَالَ، وتوَضَّأ، ومَسَح على خُفَّيه».

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: "I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and then he urinated, performed ablution, and wiped over his leather socks.

Explanation

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān (may Allah be pleased with him) informs us that he was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in Madīnah, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to answer the call of nature. He came to a place where garbage was thrown behind a wall, and he urinated, made ablution, and wiped over his leather socks. It was his habit to make ablution after answering the call of nature and cleansing himself with either Istijmār (cleansing with clay stone) or Istinjā’ (cleansing with water).
