Five are the acts of Fitrah (natural disposition): circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the mustache, clipping the nails, and plucking the armpit hair Trim the mustaches and grow the beards Whoever performs ablution as I have done and then stands and prays two Rak‘ahs without letting his thoughts wander, his previous sins will be forgiven Allah does not accept the prayer of anyone of you who is in the state of Hadath (minor ritual impurity), until he performs ablution The tooth-stick cleans the mouth and pleases the Lord He who performs ablution perfectly, his sins will leave his body Beware of (smearing yourselves with) urine, because it is the main cause of punishment in the grave Purity is half of the Imān Once I was in the company of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey and I bent down to take off his leather socks, but he asked me to leave them as he had put them on after performing ablution. So, he wiped over them Fātimah bint Abi Hubaysh asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): I am a woman who has continuous flow of vaginal bleeding; so, my menses does not cease. Should I abstain from prayer? He replied: This is a vein. Abstain from prayer only for a number of days similar to those of your normal menses; then, take a ritual bath and pray. When anyone of you performs ablution, let him sniff water in his nose and then blow it out. Whoever cleans his private parts with stones, let him do so with an odd number of stones. Whoever wakes up from his sleep, let him wash his hands three times before putting them in the water vessel, for none of you knows where his hands were during his sleep When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to get up at night, he would cleanse his mouth with the tooth-stick I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then he urinated, and performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks When you go to a place to relieve yourselves, do not turn your face or back toward the Qiblah while defecating or urinating, but face east or west. No one of you should hold his penis with his right hand while urinating, or clean himself after answering the call of nature using his right hand, or breathe into the vessel When a dog drinks from the vessel of any of you, let him wash it seven times O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils I prepared water for Allah's Messenger to purify himself from the major ritual impurity. He poured water with his right hand onto his left hand twice or three times and then washed his private parts and rubbed his hand on the ground or the wall On taking a ritual bath, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to wash his hands, then perform ablution like that for prayer, then wash himself I used to experience frequent discharge of pre-ejaculatory fluid, and I was too shy to ask the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about it given the fact that his daughter was my wife. So I asked Al-Miqdād ibn al-Aswad to ask him about it. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Let him wash his penis and perform ablution (after it) When you put on clothes and when you perform ablution, you should begin with your right side I witnessed ‘Amr ibn Abi Hasan asking ‘Abdullāh ibn Zayd about the Prophet's ablution. So, he ordered for a small bucket of water to be brought, and performed ablution like that performed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He poured water from the bucket over his hands and washed his hands thrice I came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he was cleansing his mouth with a ripe tooth-stick. The edge of the tooth-stick was on his tongue and he was making a sound like: “ugh, ugh” as if he was heaving, and the tooth-stick was in his mouth It would have been enough for you to do this with your hands like this. Then he struck the ground once with his hands and then used the left hand to wipe over the right, as well as the back side of his hands and face Woe to the heel bones from the Hellfire What did the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) use to start with upon entering his house? She said: With the tooth-stick Ten practices are part of the Fitrah: Trimming the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick, rinsing the nose, trimming the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, and washing the private parts with water During your sleep, Satan ties three knots at the back of the head of each one of you, and he seals each knot with the following words: The night is long, so keep on sleeping We used to prepare for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) his tooth-stick and the water he used for making ablution. Then, Allah would awaken him whenever He willed during the night, and he would brush his teeth with the tooth-stick, make ablution, and perform prayer Whoever takes a bath on Friday, like the bath taken from sexual impurity, and then goes (to the mosque) on the first hour is like the one who offers a camel as a sacrifice; and whoever goes on the second hour is like the one who offers a cow as a sacrifice Whoever of you comes to attend the Friday prayer, let him take a bath Its water is pure and its dead animals are lawful (to eat) If there is enough water to fill two pitchers, then it will bear no impurity He who drinks in a vessel (made) of gold or silver has, in fact, swallowed in his stomach fire from Hell Were it not that I would cause difficulty for my followers, I would command them to use the tooth-stick with every prayer If any of you wakes up from his sleep and wants to perform ablution, let him blow from his nose the water that he inhales three times, for the devil spends the night on his nostril The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution; he rinsed his mouth thrice and blew water out of his nose thrice. He then washed his face thrice and his right and left forearms thrice, then he took more water and wiped over his head, and then he washed his feet until he cleaned them The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and passed a wet hand on his forelock, over the turban, and over the two leather socks The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to run the water around his elbows while performing ablution The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is invalid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah is invalid Go back and perform ablution properly The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to take a ritual bath with one Sā‘ of water up to five Mudd and used to perform ablution with one Mudd If any Muslim performs ablution well then stands and prays two Rak‘ahs while focused on them with his heart and his face, Paradise is guaranteed for him I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the top of his leather socks If one of you makes ablution and then wears his leather socks, then let him wipe over them (in his next ablution) and pray while having them on without taking them off, except if he becomes in the state of Janābah The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) kissed some of his wives, and then went out for prayer without making ablution Is it not but a piece of him After becoming pure, we did not consider turbid and yellowish discharges to be of any significance Stop (praying) and wait for as long as your menstrual period would normally prevent you from praying, and then take a ritual bath If any of you has sexual intercourse with his wife and then wished to have intercourse again, then let him perform ablution between the two times Whoever performs ablution on Friday, that is good, and whoever takes a bath has done what is better Beware of the two things that provoke cursing. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what are those two things which provoke cursing? He said: The one who relieves himself on people’s roads or in their shade The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep while in a state of Janābah without touching water O ‘Ā'ishah, indeed, my eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution upon every prayer The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution by washing the body parts only once The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution by washing the body parts only twice If one of you feels something in his stomach and doubts whether he released some wind or not, he should not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or smells an odor It is due upon every Muslim to take a bath once in every seven days I came to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention of embracing Islam. He commanded me to take a bath with water and the leaves of lote-tree One day I climbed over Hafsah's house, and I saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) relieving himself while facing the Levant, with his back toward the Ka‘bah. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered the privy, a servant and I used to carry a waterskin and a pointed staff, and he would cleanse himself with water A Bedouin came and urinated in a corner of the mosque Umm Habībah had non-menstrual vaginal bleeding for seven years. She asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and he ordered her to take a ritual bath. No one of you should urinate in stagnant water then take a ritual bath with it The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw a person sitting aloof and not praying with the people. He asked him: “O so-and-so, what prevented you from offering the prayer with the people?” He replied: “O Messenger of Allah, I am ritually impure and there is no water.” In response, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You should use clean earth, and that will be sufficient for you.” I was in a state of major ritual impurity and disliked to sit with you while being impure. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Glory be to Allah! The believer never becomes impure If a Muslim or - a believer - performs ablution, when he washes his face, every sin he has committed with his eyes is washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water O Messenger of Allah, verily, Allah does not feel shy of the truth. If a woman had a wet dream, would it be obligatory on her to take a ritual bath? He replied: Yes, if she sees vaginal fluid The ornament of the believer will reach as far as his ablution reaches I used to wash the traces of semen from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he would go out to the prayer with water spots on his garment Why does the menstruating woman make up for her missed fasts but does not make up for the missed prayers? She said: Are you a Harūriyyah? I said: I am not a Harūriyyah, but I am just asking. She said: That would happen to us, so we were ordered to make up for the fasts but were not ordered to make up for the prayers. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to pour water over his head thrice The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to recline in my lap and recite the Qur'an during my menstruation A baby boy was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he urinated on the Prophet's clothes. So, he asked for water and sprinkled it over it If he sits between her four limbs and exerts himself, the ritual bath becomes obligatory I have told you repeatedly to use the tooth-stick The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) instructed us that during a journey we need not to take off our leather socks for up to three days and nights, except in case of major ritual impurity. In other cases such as sleeping, relieving oneself, or urinating, it is sufficient to wipe over leather socks In the time of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) we would not find such food except rarely. So if we found it, we had no napkins except our palms, forearms, and feet. Then we would pray without making (a new) ablution Let him, and pour a bucket or pail of water onto his urine. You were sent to make things easy and not to make them difficult Water is pure and nothing makes it impure The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to take a ritual bath with water left over from Maymūnah (may Allah be pleased with her) Water is not affected by Janābah It is not impure. It is one of those who roam around among you The urine of a girl should be washed, but the urine of a boy should be splashed with water She should scrape it, rub it with water, and wash it, and then she may pray in it It is enough for you to wash the blood, and there is nothing wrong with its mark This is how the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution Perform ablution thoroughly, pass your fingers through each other, and snuff water well into your nostrils unless you are fasting I saw ‘Ammār ibn Yāsir perform ablution, and he ran his fingers through his beard. It was said to him (or he said: I said to him): Do you run your fingers through your beard? He replied: What is there to prevent me if I have seen the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) run his fingers through his beard? Two-thirds of a Mudd were brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he began rubbing his arm The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched an expedition, but they came across cold weather. When they returned to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), he ordered them to wipe over their turbans and socks During the Prophet's lifetime, the Companions used to wait for the ‘Ishā' prayer so much so their heads were lowered down (by dozing). They would then pray without performing (a new) ablution Whoever touches his penis should make ablution He asked: May I pray in the sheepfolds? He replied: Yes. He then asked: May I pray where camels sit? He replied: No The one who washes the dead should take a bath, and the one who carries him should perform ablution The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was reported to have said concerning a man who engages in sexual intercourse with his wife during her menses: Let him give one dinar or half a dinar in charity Among the Jews, whenever a woman had her menstruation, they would neither eat with her nor associate with her in their houses O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who experiences a heavy prolonged flow of menstrual blood, so what do you think about it? It has prevented me from praying and fasting. He said: I suggest that you use cotton, for it eliminates (the traces of) blood. She replied: It is too copious for that Glory be to Allah, this comes from the devil. Let her sit in a washtub, and if she sees yellowness on top of the water, she has to take a bath once for the Zhuhr and ‘Asr prayers and another bath for the Maghrib and ‘Ishā' prayers and a third bath for the Fajr prayer, and she may perform ablution in between that (if she needs to) I have been granted victory by means of awe (cast in the hearts of the enemies), I have been given the keys of the earth, I have been named Ahmad, the earth was made for me a means of purification, and my nation has been made the best of nations We have been preferred over others by three (privileges): Our rows are like the rows of the angels, the whole earth is for us a place to pray and its dust is for us a means to purify ourselves with if we do not find water I used to take a bath with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) from Janābah using a single water container in which we dipped our hands alternately It is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water on your head then pour water all over yourself, and you will be purified I poured water for the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to take a ritual bath When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) took a ritual bath to remove Janābah, he would start by washing his hands. Then he would pour water with his right hand over his left hand to wash his private parts. Then he would make ablution like that he would make for his prayer Man's discharge (i. e. semen) is thick and white, and the discharge (vaginal fluid) of a woman is thin and yellow, and the resemblance (of the child) comes from the one that dominates or precedes The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making Istinjā’ with dung or bones, and said: They do not purify When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the privy, he would say: O Allah, grant me Your forgiveness He prohibited us from facing the Qiblah when defecating or urinating and from using the right hand, using less than three stones, and using dung and bones in Istinjā’ The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) set a limit of three days with their nights for the traveler, and one day and night for the one who is not traveling Bring me stones so that I may cleanse (my private parts) therewith, but do not bring any bones or animal dung If any of you treads with his shoes on something unclean, they will be purified with the earth The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) granted the traveler a concession to wipe over his leather socks with a wet hand for three days and nights I went to ‘Ā’ishah and asked her to describe to me the Messenger's illness. ‘Ā’ishah said: Yes. The Prophet became seriously ill and asked whether the people had prayed. We replied: No, O Messenger of Allah! They are waiting for you Some people of the Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dragging one of their sheep like a donkey (in its size or for its disposal). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Would that you took its skin." They said: "It died a natural death." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Water and Qarazh (leaves of the mimosa) purify it." That when the cup of the Prophet cracked, he mended the crack with a silver chain Verily, the two eyes (when awake) are the string that ties up the anus, but when the two eyes sleep, the string is untied Do you not fear Allah regarding this animal which Allah has placed in your possession? It is complaining to me that you starve it and put it to toil They should not do so. The Prophet's wives would refrain (from prayer) for forty days during postpartum bleeding, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would not command them to complete the prayers abandoned during that period They killed him, may Allah kill them! Why had they not asked when they did not know? The cure for ignorance is inquiry. It would have been enough for him to perform Tayammum and to press – or bind – a cloth over his wound then wipe with wet hands over it and wash the rest of his body You have followed the Sunnah and your (first) prayer was enough for you Clean earth is ablution for the Muslim, even up to ten years. Then when if you find water, wash your skin with it, for that is better O Messenger of Allah, if a man parts from his wife suddenly (during sexual intercourse) without discharging semen, what will he be required to do? The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is water (seminal discharge) that makes water (ritual bath) obligatory The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would approach all of his wives and then take one ritual bath Whoever performs ablution like this, his previous sins will be forgiven
