The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) did not know where Surahs were to be separated until "In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful" was revealed to him Would any one of you like to find three large, fat, pregnant she-camels when he returns to his family? It will be said to the one devoted to the Qur’an: Read, ascend, and recite with deliberation as you used to recite in the world. Your rank will be at the last verse you recite He who recites the Qur’an openly is like he who gives charity openly, and he who recites the Qur’an secretly is like he who gives charity secretly they would listen to ten verses from the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and not move to the next ten verses until they learned the knowledge and application contained therein O Abu al-Mundhir, do you know which verse of Allah's Book that you have is the greatest?" I said: "{Allah: none has the right to be worshiped except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining...} [Surat al-Baqarah: 255]." Thereupon, he struck me on the chest and said: "May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu al-Mundhir! When the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) went to bed every night, he would join his palms together and blow into them and recite the Surahs al-Ikhlās, al-Falaq, and an-Nās, The Jews incurred Allah's wrath, and the Christians went astray If you see those who follow the ambiguous verses, they are those whom Allah has named; so, beware of them There is no man who commits a sin, then gets up and performs Tahārah (ritual purification), then performs prayer, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, except that Allah forgives him The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you, and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them Is He Who is able to make them walk on their feet not able enough to make them walk upon their faces on the Day of Resurrection? Say 'there is no god but Allah', and I will testify for you by it on the Day of Judgment What you say and invite people to is indeed good. If only you could tell us whether there is an expiation for what we did Go and say to him: You are not from the people of Hellfire but from the people of Paradise O people, verily Allah has removed the arrogance of jāhiliyyah from you and their boastfulness about their forefathers {Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.} There will be in the latter time of my Ummah people who will narrate what neither you nor your fathers have heard. Beware of them Write down; for by the One in Whose Hand my soul is, nothing comes out of it except the truth The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution upon every prayer The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution by washing the body parts once The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution by washing the body parts twice If one of you feels something in his stomach and doubts whether he released some wind or not, he should not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or smells an odor It is due upon every Muslim to bathe for one day every seven days, in which he should wash his head and body I came to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention of embracing Islam. He commanded me to take a bath with water and the leaves of a lote tree When you hear the Muezzin, say what he says and then invoke Allah's blessings upon me He who builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him the like of it in Paradise.' A prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers anywhere else, except for the Sacred Mosque When anyone of you enters the mosque, let him offer two Rak‘ahs before he sits down When any of you enters the mosque, let him say: 'Allahumma iftah li abwāba rahmatik' (O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy). And when he leaves, let him say: 'Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik' (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty) 'O Bilāl, call the Iqāmah for the prayer; give us comfort by it.' O people, I only did this so that you can follow my example and learn my prayer.' 'When you pray, straighten your rows and let one of you lead in prayer, and when he says takbīr, say takbīr By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, I am the closest among you to the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Such was his prayer until he departed this world The worst of thieves among people is the one who steals his prayer." He said: "How does he steal his prayer?" He said: "He does not perform its Rukū‘ or prostration perfectly When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) raised his back from Rukū‘ (bowing), he would say: "Sami‘a allāhu liman hamidah The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to say after every obligatory prayer The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to say between the two prostrations: "Rabbi ighfir li, rabbi ighfir li" (My Lord, forgive me; my Lord, forgive me) That is Satan who is known as Khinzab. If you perceive his effect, seek refuge with Allah from him and spit three times to your left Allah does not accept any deed except what is done purely for Him and in pursuit of His Countenance He finds the taste of Imān who is pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as Messenger “There are four (traits); whoever has them is a sheer hypocrite, and whoever has one trait of them has one of the traits of hypocrisy until he gives it up: whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous; whenever he makes a promise, he breaks it; and whenever he is in a dispute, he behaves in a shameless immoral manner When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a pious child who supplicates for him O Messenger of Allah, ’Umm Sa‘d died. Which charity is the best?" He said: 'Water.' He said: So, he dug a well and said: "This is for ’Umm Sa‘d A believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor a person who speaks obscenely, nor a person who uses foul language Whoever says a hundred times in a day: "La ilāha illallāhu wahdahu la sharīka lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadīr" (There is no god but Allah. He is One, and He has no partner with Him; to Him belong the sovereignty and praise, and He is competent over all things) Indeed, the dearest of your names to Allah is ‘Abdullah and ‘Abdur-Rahmān Whatever intoxicates in large amounts, its small amount is forbidden A time limit was set for us regarding trimming the mustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hair, and shaving the pubic hair—that we should not leave them for more than forty nights Indeed, I do not shake hands with women. My statement to a hundred women is like my statement to one woman There will be rulers who tell lies and oppress; whoever believes their lies and assists them in their oppression does not belong to me, and I do not belong to him The heart of an elderly person remains young in two things: in the love of this world and long hopes Remember the destroyer of pleasures frequently," meaning death Do not enter the dwellings of those who have wronged themselves, unless you are weeping The trials are presented to the hearts, like a reed mat, stick by stick The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon us after his daughter had died and said: "Wash her three times, or five times or more if you find that necessary. Wash her with water and Sidr (ground lotus leaves), add camphor (or a pinch of camphor) to water in the last time, and let me know when you finish." Observing Ribāt (guarding the Muslim frontiers in the cause of Allah) for a day and a night is better than fasting and standing for night prayer for a whole month. If a person dies (while performing Ribāt), he will receive the reward for his righteous deeds perpetually, will receive his provision, and will be saved from the trials of the grave Perform ‘Umrah when Ramadan comes, for ‘Umrah in it is equivalent to Hajj The actions of every dead person come to a halt except the one who is garrisoned on the frontier in the way of Allah. His deeds will keep growing till the Day of Judgment, and he will be secure from the trial in the grave. O Messenger of Allah, we consider Jihad the best deed; should we not perform Jihad? He said, "No; rather, the best Jihad is Mabrūr (accepted) Hajj A Muslim man went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he was in the mosque and called him, saying: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." When anyone of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he licks it or has it licked. When Allah gathers the first and the last on the Day of Judgment, a banner will be raised for every traitor, and it will be said: This is the betrayal of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so Sa‘d ibn ‘Ubādah sought a ruling from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) concerning a vow that was due upon his mother, who had died before she fulfilled it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfill it on her behalf." A spy from among the polytheists came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he was on a journey. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us with seven and forbade us from seven A man who had drunk alcohol was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who hit him with a palm stalk with about forty lashes. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) cut off (a thief's hand) for a shield that was worth three dirhams. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) had a gold ring made for himself Every drink that intoxicates is unlawful. O people, do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for safety The prohibition of wine was revealed, which is made of five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barley. Allah has guaranteed for the one who fights in His cause to admit him into Paradise if He takes his soul, or to return him safe and sound with reward or booty. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) heard voices arguing at the door of his house. Take from his money in a reasonable manner what suffices you and suffices your children Observing Ribāt (guarding the Muslims' frontiers) for one day in the cause of Allah is better than the world and everything in it ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf and Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām (may Allah be pleased with both of them) complained of lice to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed two black and white horned rams, which he slaughtered with his hand, as he mentioned Allah's name and said: "Allāhu Akbar" (Allah is the Most Great), and put his foot on their necks A single journey undertaken in the early morning or in the evening in the cause of Allah is better than whatever the sun rises and sets upon We were hosted by Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) and he asked for the food to be served and it had chicken meat in it. May Allah destroy the Jews; the fat of animals was forbidden for them, but they melted it and sold it. Whoever takes a false oath to deprive a Muslim person of his property unlawfully, will meet Allah while He is angry with him These animals have instincts like those of the wild beasts, so if you lose control over one of them, treat it in this way If a man – or he said someone – peeped at you without your permission and you threw a pebble at him that gouged out his eye, you would not be at fault. I have never seen anyone with shoulder-length hair and wearing a red garment more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) No one is wounded in the way of Allah except that he comes on the Day of Judgment with his wound bleeding; the color is that of blood, and the smell is that of musk. If anyone undertakes to take a false oath to appropriate the wealth of a Muslim, he will meet Allah while He is angry with him. Whoever kills someone in battle, having a proof for that, his belongings are his. We slaughtered a horse and ate it at the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). My sister vowed to walk to the Sacred Mosque barefoot. Then, she asked me to ask the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about it. I asked him, and he replied: "Let her walk and ride." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing silk except for the width of two, three, or four fingers. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the flesh of domestic donkeys and permitted that of horses. O ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Samurah, do not ask for a position of authority, for if you were granted such authority upon your request, you would be left (to manage it) unaided. Shall I not inform you about these three persons? One of them sought refuge with Allah, so Allah gave him refuge. The second one felt shy, so Allah was shy towards him. And the last one turned away, so Allah turned away from him. He said: Say: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the hidden and the apparent, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of the devil and the evil of polytheism to which he calls. In the evening, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: The evening has reached, and all the dominion belongs to Allah and praise be to Allah. There is no god but Allah, alone with no partner. While the people were performing the Fajr prayer in Qubā' Mosque, someone came saying: Tonight, (a portion of the) Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he was ordered to face the Qiblah, so face it. If Allah wills to do good to a ruler, He appoints for him a truthful adviser, who will remind him if he forgets and help him if he remembers. And if Allah wills otherwise for him, He appoints for him a bad adviser who will not remind him if he forgets, nor will he help him if he remembers. Allah never sent any prophet nor did He invest anyone with authority except that he has two entourages: one entourage enjoins him to do good and encourages him to carry it out; another entourage enjoins him to do evil and incites him to carry it out. Bilāl calls the Adhān at night; so, eat and drink until you hear the Adhān called by Ibn Umm Maktūm A man will go to sleep and honesty will be taken out of his heart and only a trace of it will remain, like the trace of a dark spot. And a man will go to sleep again and the honesty will decrease further still, so its trace will resemble that of a blister. The Messenger's right hand was for his purification and eating, and his left hand was for cleansing after relieving himself and (handling) repulsive things. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions went to Makkah, the polytheists said: "There will come to you people who are weakened by the fever of Madīnah." So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded his Companions to jog the three rounds (of Tawāf) and walk between the two Corners. One day I climbed over Hafsah's house, and I saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) relieving himself while facing the Levant, with his back toward the Ka‘bah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) circumambulated the Ka‘bah in the Farewell Hajj on the back of a camel, touching the Corner with a crook. I did not see the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wiping with his hand anything of the House except the two Yemeni Corners. I love you for Allah's sake. He said: May the One you love me for His sake love you When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered the privy, a servant and I used to carry a waterskin and a pointed staff, and he would cleanse himself with water It is out of glorification of Allah, Almighty, to honor the grey-haired (old) Muslim, and the bearer of the Qur'an who neither exaggerates concerning it nor neglects it, and to honor the just ruler. O people, proceed calmly, for goodness is not attained by rushing A Bedouin came and urinated in a corner of the mosque I saw you pray towards a direction other than the Qiblah! He said: Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) doing so, I would not have done it Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day let him honor his guest with his due reward. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is his due reward? He said: "A day and a night (of excellent accommodation) and hospitality is for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity offered to him." I saw the Ansār do something with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) after which I took a pledge upon myself that I would not accompany anyone of them without serving him Umm Habībah had non-menstrual vaginal bleeding for seven years. She asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and he ordered her to take a ritual bath. No one of you should urinate in stagnant water then take a ritual bath with it I advise you to treat women kindly, for the woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its uppermost part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it; and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, treat women kindly. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw a person sitting aloof and not praying with the people. He asked him: “O so-and-so, what prevented you from offering the prayer with the people?” He replied: “O Messenger of Allah, I am ritually impure and there is no water.” In response, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You should use clean earth, and that will be sufficient for you.” When Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came to Mina, he went to "Jamrat al-‘Aqabah" and threw pebbles at it. After that, he went to his tent in Mina and sacrificed. Thenو he called for a barber, pointed at the right side of his head, and said: "Shave from here." Then, he pointed at his left side and said: "Take (hair) from here." Then, he distributed his hair among the people. Whoever takes an oath to do something and then he finds a better alternative which brings him closer to Allah should do what is better in piety I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) put me in charge of slaughtering his camels (which he wanted to sacrifice); and to give in charity their meat, skins, and saddle cloths; and not to give any of them to the butcher Are you then asking me about the origins of the Arabs? The best of them in the pre-Islamic era are the best of them in Islam, provided that they acquire religious knowledge Some of you would whip your wives as if they were slaves and then have intercourse with them at the end of the day One will be with those whom he loves I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he arrived at the dump of some people and passed urine while standing Glory be to Allah! The believer never becomes impure The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade throwing stones and said: It does not kill the quarry or harm the enemy. Instead, it can gouge out an eye or break a tooth Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give us a reminder every Thursday He does not belong to us who does not show mercy to our young and honor our old One day, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon at a watering place known as Khumm located between Makkah and Madīnah. He praised Allah, extolled Him, and gave us an admonition and reminder. Straighten your rows, or Allah will cause dissension amongst you The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the Zhuhr prayer and continued after the first two Rak‘ahs without sitting for Tashahhud, and people stood with him. When he finished the prayer and people were waiting for his making Taslīm, he said Takbīr while sitting and prostrated twice before Taslīm, then he concluded his prayer with Taslīm. Once I came riding a female donkey when I had almost attained the age of puberty. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was leading people in prayer at Mina with no wall in front of him When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got up for prayer, he would say Takbīr when he stands. Then he would say Takbīr when he bows. Then he would say: "Allah hears the one who praised Him" when he raises his back from bowing When the heat is intense, delay the prayer until it becomes fairly cool, for intense heat is from the boiling and breathing of Hellfire Al-‘Abbās ibn ‘Abdul-Muttalib sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to spend the nights of Mina in Makkah to provide (the pilgrims with) water, and he permitted him Hasten with the funeral, for if it is righteous, you will be taking it forward to what is good; and if it is otherwise, you will be laying evil off your necks By the One in whose Hand my soul is, this world will not come to an end until a man passes by a grave, rolls over it and says: I wish I were in the place of the dweller of this grave, not due to religious reasons but due to (worldly) affliction The Hour will not occur until the Euphrates recedes uncovering a mountain of gold over which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of every hundred will get killed People will desert Madīnah, in spite of its being in its best condition, and it will only be inhabited by wild beasts and birds A time will come when a man will go about with charity from his gold and not find anyone to receive it. One man will be seen being followed by forty women dependent upon him on account of the scarcity of men and the high number of women Righteous people will go (die) one after another. Meanwhile, the dregs of people, like waste barley or dates, will remain. Allah will not raise them in esteem The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) once sent sheep as Hady An honest Muslim storekeeper, who carries out the orders of his master and pays fully what he has been ordered to give with a good heart and pays to that person to whom he was ordered to pay, is regarded as one of the two charitable persons There were two brothers during the time of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). One of them used to come to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and the other used to work to earn a living. Once, the working brother complained to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about his brother. Thereupon, he replied: Perhaps you are granted sustenance because of him The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayer on the back of his riding beast (camel), whatever direction it went. He would nod his head. Ibn ‘Umar would do so as well I was a boy during the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to memorize some of what he said. Nothing prevented me from narrating (what I learned) except that there were men here who were older than me I saw in my dream that I was using a tooth-stick when two men came to me, one of them older than the other. I gave the tooth-stick to the younger one, but I was told to give it to the older one first, so I did I wove the collars for the sacrificial animals of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then I marked them and he - or I - put the collars on their necks, and he sent them to the Ka‘bah and stayed at Madīnah, and he was not forbidden from anything which was lawful for him (before sending them) Indeed, Allah has made Paradise obligatory for her because of it, or He has freed her from Hellfire because of it I am a messenger from Allah to you to tell you that Allah loves you as you love him for His sake The Prophet's wives were with him when Fātimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came walking. Her gait was exactly similar to the gait of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) I never felt jealous of any of the Prophet's wives more than I felt jealous of Khadījah (may Allah be pleased with her). I never saw her, but he used to mention her a lot The needy is not the one who can be turned away with a date-fruit or two, or a morsel or two. But, the needy is the one who abstains from begging The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered the House along with Usāma ibn Zayd, Bilāl, and ‘Uthmān ibn Talha The Prophet of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man carrying a sacrificial camel, so he said: Ride it. The man said: It is a sacrificial camel. He said: Ride it If you wish, be patient and you will enter Paradise; or, if you wish, I will supplicate Allah to cure you Anyone in an area afflicted with plague who stays therein patiently hoping for Allah's reward and believing that nothing will befall him except what Allah has foreordained for him will get a reward similar to that of a martyr The bankrupt in my Ummah is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with prayer, fasting and Zakah, but since he hurled abuse at others, accused others of committing adultery without evidence, unlawfully consumed the wealth of others, and shed the blood of others and beat others, his good deeds will be credited to the accounts of others (who suffered at his hands) Recite frequently: Yādha al-jalāl wa al-ikrām (O Possessor of Majesty and Bounty) When one of you arrives at a gathering, let him greet with peace. When he wants to leave, let him greet with peace, for the first is not more deserving than the last A person entered the mosque on a Friday through the gate facing Dar al-Qadā’ while the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was standing delivering the sermon I watched the prayer of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and found his standing, his bowing, standing after bowing, prostration, sitting between the two prostrations, prostration, and sitting between Taslīm (end of the prayer) and going away nearly equal to one another While a man was standing at ‘Arafāt, he fell from his mount and it snapped his neck. So, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wash him with water and Sidr, and shroud him in his two garments, and do not perfume him or cover his head, for he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment reciting Talbiyah (Here I am, O Allah, at Your service!) I looked into Paradise and found that the majority of its people are the poor, and I looked into the Fire and found that the majority of its people are women A man asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) during the Battle of Uhud: "If I am killed, where do you think I would be?" He replied: "In Paradise." So the man threw some dates that were in his hand and fought until he was killed The supplication of a Muslim for a fellow Muslim in his absence is answered The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray while carrying Umāmah the daughter of Zaynab, daughter of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) I will do my best to lead you in prayer just as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead us in prayer “We were forbidden to follow funeral processions, but the prohibition was not mandatory for us.” When we went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) one would sit wherever there was room Paradise and Hell debated. Hell said: The tyrants and the proud are in me. Paradise said: The weak and the poor are in me A man who drank wine was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), who said: Beat him I see what you do not see. Heaven is groaning and it has a right to be groaning: there is no space the width of four fingers in it but an angel placing his forehead in prostration to Allah, the Exalted Whoever suppresses his rage while being able to vent it, Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will call him before the entire creation on the Day of Judgment so that he can choose whomever of the houris he wishes to have To Allah belongs what He takes, and to Him belongs what He gives, and for everything He sets a specific term.
