No man should move another from the place he is sitting then sit in it. Instead, make room and spread out The young should greet the old, the passer-by should greet the one who is sitting, and the small group of people should greet the larger one When a group of people pass by, it is sufficient if one of them extends the greetings on their behalf, and it is sufficient if one returns the greeting on behalf of a group The pleasure of Allah is in the pleasure of the parents, and the displeasure of Allah is in the displeasure of the parents Eat, drink, wear clothes, and give charity without extravagance or pride I have never prayed behind an Imām who was more brief and more perfect in prayer than the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) I will lead you in prayer; although I do not intend to pray, it is just to show you how I witnessed the Messenger of Allah pray It would have been better if you had recited Sūrat al-A‘la, Sūrat Ash-Shams, or Sūrat al-Layl, for the old, the weak, and the needy pray behind you The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) announced the death of the Negus on the day he had died. He took the people to the prayer place, lined them up, and made four Takbīrs We used to perform the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and leave at a time when the walls had no shadow that we could take as shelter The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons while standing, and he would separate them by sitting The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prayed on the Day of An-Nahr, then delivered a sermon, then slaughtered (an animal) and said: Whoever slaughtered before praying should slaughter another animal instead, and whoever has not yet slaughtered should slaughter while mentioning Allah's name Travel is a portion of torment Whoever gives up wearing elegant expensive clothes out of humbleness with Allah, while he can afford it, Allah will call him on the Day of Judgment before all people and let him choose whichever of the garments of faith he would like to wear He who has wronged his brother, concerning his honor or anything else, let him ask for his pardon today before there comes a time when there will be neither a dinar nor a dirham Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy Whoever sleeps and fails to recite his nightly portion, or part of it, and then recites it between the Fajr prayer and the Zhuhr prayer, it will be recorded for him as if he recited it during the night What an excellent dip vinegar is! What an excellent dip vinegar is None of you should drink while standing, and whoever forgets, then let him induce vomit The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade turning the waterskins upside down and drinking from their mouths that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited blowing in one's drink O Jibrīl, go to Muhammad and say: Verily, We will please you with regard to your Ummah and will not displease you I passed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and my lower garment was trailing. Therefore, he said: O ‘Abdullāh, pull up your lower garment. I raised it and he said: Up! So I raised it further, and I have been doing so since then. Some people said: Up to where? He said: To the middle of the shins People will be gathered on the Day of Judgment barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised Allah, Glorified and Exalted, laughs at two men, one of them kills the other, yet both enter Paradise. This one fights in the cause of Allah, so he gets killed. Then Allah accepts the repentance of the killer, so he becomes a Muslim and dies as a martyr People will rise from their graves and stand before the Lord of the Worlds. Some of them will get submerged in their perspiration up to the middle of their ears O Allah, we ask You to ward them off (from their throats), and we seek Your protection against their evil The lasting good deeds are the statements: There is no god but Allah, glory be to Allah, Allah is the greatest, praise be to Allah, there is no power or might except with Allah O Allah, I ask You by virtue of my testimony that You are Allah; there is no God but You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, Who did not beget, and was not begotten, and to Whom no one is equal O Allah, just as You made my external form beautiful, make my character beautiful as well The believer who mixes with people and patiently bears their annoyance is better than the believer who does not mix with people or patiently bear their annoyance A believer is the mirror of his fellow believer And verily, Allah revealed to me that you must be humble, so that no one boasts of oneself before another or oppresses another Verily you cannot embrace and suffice all people with your money, but you can embrace and suffice them all with a cheerful face and good manners Never does the son of Adam do any deed that can save him from Allah's punishment more than remembering Allah Whoever exalts himself over others and walks with a swaggering gait (with pride), will meet Allah while He is angry with him The Ash‘aris, if they ran short of provisions while on a military expedition, or if their children did not have enough food in Madīnah If a Muslim visits his sick fellow Muslim, he will remain in the Khurfah of Paradise tills he leaves returns A woman from the tribe of Juhaynah came to the Prophet while she was pregnant from adultery Bismillāhi arqīk, min kulli shay’in yu’dhīk, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin hāsidin, Allāhu yashfīk, bismillāhi arqīk (In the Name of Allah, I recite a prayer (Ruqyah) over you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or the eye of an envier. May Allah cure you. In the Name of Allah, I recite a prayer (Ruqyah) over you) The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was given something to drink, so he drank from it, and there was a boy on his right None of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good, so he may do more good; or he is an evildoer, so he may give up evil deeds Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ate food, he would lick his three fingers A slave girl of Madīnah would take hold of the hand of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and would take him wherever she wished I came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he was giving a sermon The example of the companion of the Qur’an is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will hold them; but if he releases them, they will run away That he passed by some boys, so he greeted them with Salām and said that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to do so As for this man, he has disobeyed the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man praising another and exaggerating in his praise, whereupon he said: You have ruined - or cut - the man's back. Woe unto you! You have cut the neck of your companion If you get news of the outbreak of a plague in a land, do not enter it, and if it breaks out in a land in which you are, do not leave it The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) forbade traveling with the Qur’an to the land of enemies I see that you like sheep and wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep - or in the wilderness - and you want to call the Adhān, raise your voice I gave the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a zebra as a gift Have glad tidings with two lights that have been given to you, which no prophet before you has been given: Surat al-Fātihah and the concluding verses of Surat al-Baqarah. You will not read one letter of them except that you will be given it When one of you feels drowsy during prayer, let him lie down till drowsiness goes away from him Give my cloak back to me. Were I to have camels equal to the number of these trees, I would distribute them all among you, and you would not have found me a miser, a liar, or a coward By Allah, no one of you takes anything unlawfully except that he will meet Allah carrying it on the Day of Judgment Will you not listen? Will you not listen? Simplicity is part of faith, simplicity is part of faith O ‘Ā’ishah, indeed, Allah is gentle and He loves gentleness, and He gives for gentleness what He does not give for violence and what He does not give for anything else Indeed you possess two traits that Allah loves: prudence and deliberation The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) made a bond of brotherhood between Salmān and Abu Ad-Dardā'. Salmān paid a visit to Abu Ad-Dardā' and found his wife, Um Ad-Dardā', dressed in a shabby manner and asked her why she was in that state. She replied, "Your brother Abu Ad-Dardā' is not interested in (the pleasures of) this world." Later, Abu Ad-Dardā' came and prepared a meal for Salmān. Salmān asked Abu Ad-Dardā' to eat with him, but Abu Ad-Dardā' said: "I am fasting." Salmān said: "I am not going to eat unless you eat." So, Abu Ad-Dardā' ate with him. When it was night, Abu Ad-Dardā' got up to offer (voluntary) night prayer, but Salmān told him to sleep and Abu Ad-Dardā' slept. After sometime, Abu Ad-Dardā' again got up to pray but Salmān told him to sleep. When it was the last hours of the night, Salmān told him to get up then, and both of them offered the prayer. Salmān told Abu Ad-Dardā': "Your Lord has a right on you, your own self has a right on you, and your family has a right on you, so give everyone their due rights." Abu Ad-Dardā' came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and narrated the whole story. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Salmān has spoken the truth." Let him, and pour a bucket or pail of water onto his urine. You were sent to make things easy and not to make them difficult What is left of it (the sheep)? She replied: Nothing is left except its shoulder. He said: All of it is left except its shoulder I used to pray with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his prayer was moderate in length and his sermon was moderate in length Indeed, many women have come to the family of Muhammad complaining about their husbands. Those (men) are not the best among you Whenever a woman harms her husband in this world, his wife from the Houris of Paradise says: Do not harm him! May Allah destroy you! He is but a passing guest with you, and he will soon leave you to join us Spend (in charity), and do not keep account, lest Allah keep account of you, and do not hoard, lest Allah hoard from you All rights will be restored on the Day of Judgment, until even the hornless sheep will settle its score with the horned one If I were to order anyone to prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered the wife to prostrate herself before her husband You should pray as long as you have the energy to do so. If you feel tired, then lie down It is not proper for a Muslim who has something to bequeath to stay for three nights without having his will written with him The wealth of a man will not diminish by charity; Allah augments the honor of a man who endures an oppression patiently; and he who opens a gate of begging, Allah opens a gate of poverty The example of a miser and a generous person is that of two men wearing two iron cloaks covering their breasts up to their collar bones Order him to speak, seek the shade, sit down, and complete his fast Whoever finds his property intact with a bankrupt person, he has more right to take it than anyone else If someone sells pollinated date palms, their fruits will be for the seller, unless the buyer stipulates the contrary Do (good) deeds according to your capacity, for by Allah, Allah never grows weary (of giving rewards) unless you grow weary (of doing good deeds), and the best deed in His sight is that which is done regularly The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade riders being met on their way, and a townsman selling for a man from the desert the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the Muzābanah sale: that is to sell fruits in one's garden, if it is palm trees, for dates by dry measure; and if it is a vineyard, to sell for raisins by dry measure; and if it is any crop to sell for a dry measure of its food. He forbade all such transactions The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited Shighār marriage The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the transaction called Habal al-Habalah It is sustenance that Allah brought out for you. Do you have anything from its meat with you, so that you would feed us? We sent some of its meat to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) which he ate Allāhumma inni a‘ūdhu bika min al-‘ajzi wal-kasal, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wal-harami wa ‘adhāb al-qabr. Allāhumma āti nafsi taqwāha, wa zakkiha anta khayru man zakkāha, anta waliyyuha wa mawlāha. Allāhumma inni a‘ūdhu bika min ‘ilmin la yanfa‘, wa min qalbin la yakhsha‘, wa min nafsin la tashba‘, wa min da‘watin la yustajābu laha" (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from inability, indolence, cowardice, miserliness, decrepitude, and torment of the grave. O Allah, grant me the sense of piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Protector and its Guardian. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from knowledge that is not beneficial, from a heart that does not fear, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered) The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) bought food from a Jew and pledged him his iron armor O Allah, I seek refuge in You from hunger, for it is an evil bed-fellow, and I seek refuge in You from treachery, for it is an evil hidden trait Say: Allāhumma ikfini bihalālika ‘an harāmik waghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwāk (O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful against what You have made unlawful, and make me with Your bounty in no need of anyone besides You) While a man was walking, dressed in fine clothes and admiring himself, with his hair well-combed While we were on a journey with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a man came while riding a mount of his O Abu al-Hasan, how is the Messenger of Allah this morning? He said: He is feeling better this morning, by the grace of Allah O Allah, I seek refuge with You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, senility, and miserliness. And I seek refuge with You from the torment of the grave. And I seek refuge with You from the trials of life and death The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sales called Mukhābarah, Muhāqalah, Muzābanah and the selling of fruits until they are fit for eating. He also forbade the selling of fruits but for money, except in the case of ‘Araya Fear Allah regarding these dumb animals. Ride them when they are fit, and eat them when they are fit When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) traveled, he would seek refuge from the hardships of the journey, from having a change of heart, adverse conditions replacing good ones, the prayer of an oppressed person, and from seeing a misfortune occurring to his family and wealth The lonely rider is a devil, two riders are two devils and three are a traveling team O Allah, bless the early morning hours for my Ummah ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote: Kill every sorcerer and sorceress There are three to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them, and they will incur a painful punishment When you travel through green lush land, give the camels their share from the ground, and when you travel through dry barren land, make them walk quickly before their strength falters Travel during the night, for indeed, the land is folded up at night When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) encamped to sleep at night during a journey, he would lie down on his right side, and when he wanted to sleep before dawn, he would extend his forearm and place his head on his palm The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to stick to the rear while traveling, urging the weak to walk quickly, letting some ride behind him, and making supplication for them Whenever we stopped somewhere (during a journey) for rest, we would not offer (voluntary) prayer until we have unloaded the luggage from the mounts' backs Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he would say Takbīr three times and then say: Glory be to the One who subdued this (ride) for us and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use it as a ride, and to our Lord we shall, indeed, return O group of Muhājirūn and Ansār! There are among you such people who have no property and no kinsfolk. So let each one of you take along with him two or three men We visited Khabbāb ibn al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill and he had been cauterized in seven places Two of the Companions of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who never stop to pursue the good You are the Most Glorious, the Most Holy, and the Lord of the angels and of the Spirit Once the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon me while a man was in my house. He said: O ‘Ā'ishah, who is this (man)? I replied: He is my brother from breastfeeding. He said: O ‘Ā'ishah, be careful who you (women) count as your brothers from breastfeeding, for the breastfeeding (that makes marriage prohibited) is only that which satisfies hunger O Messenger of Allah, I have acquired a piece of land in Khaybar, and I have never acquired a property more precious to me than that. What do you command me to do with it? He said: If you wish you can keep its origin as an endowment, and give its yield in charity O Messenger of Allah, I married a woman. He asked: How much did you give her as dowry? He replied: A date seed weight of gold. he then said: May Allah grant you blessing. Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep Beware! Beware! This is definitely usury! This is definitely usury! Do not do so, but if you want to buy (a superior kind of dates) sell the inferior dates for money, and then buy the superior kind of dates with that money When any one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the end of his lower garment, for indeed he does not know what came unto it after he had left it the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the money paid to a soothsayer Do you think I bargained with you to take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; these are yours Seek refuge with Allah from arduous afflictions, degrading misery, preordained evils, and from the gloating of enemies Mention was made of coitus interruptus in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) whereupon he said: Why would anyone of you do that? Verily, no soul is ordained to be created but Allah will create it The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ‘Uthmān ibn Mazh‘ūn to be celibate. If he had given him permission we would have castrated ourselves I give her to you in marriage for what you have of the Qur'an Food for two persons suffices for three, and food for three persons suffices for four O Allah, verily I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire, the torment of the Fire, and from the evil of affluence and poverty Do not buy it back and do not take back your charity, even if he gives it to you for one dirham, for the one who takes back his gift is like the one who takes back his vomit The one who takes back the gift he has given to someone is like one who eats his vomit The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in his house during his illness Whoever pays in advance for anything, let him pay for a specified measure and a specified weight, to be delivered on a specified period of time We were the wealthiest farmers among the Ansār, and we used to lease out the land (saying): The produce of this (part of land) would be ours and (the produce) of that would be theirs. But it so happened that at times this (land) gave harvest, but the other one produced nothing. So he (the Prophet) forbade this. However, so far as the payment in silver is concerned, he did not forbid it We used to practice coitus interruptus while the Qur'an was being revealed. Sufyān said: If it had been something unlawful, then the Qur'an would have prohibited us from practicing it A woman should not mourn for any dead person more than three days except her husband, for whom she should mourn four months and ten days Do not sell gold for gold except like for like, and do not sell less amount for greater amount or vice versa. And do not sell silver for silver except like for like, and do not sell less amount for greater amount or vice versa. And do not sell gold or silver that is not present at the moment of exchange for gold or silver that is present One may not combine in marriage a woman and her paternal aunt, or a woman and her maternal aunt It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a deceased more than three [days], but for her husband, four months and ten days No one should prevent his neighbor from inserting a wooden peg into his wall. Abu Hurayrah then said: Why do I see you averse to that? By Allah, I will spread it [forcefully] among you When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''Allah hears the one who praises Him,'' none of us would bend his back until the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) had fallen in prostration. We would then fall in prostration right after him Fear Allah and say "Allah is the Greatest" upon every elevated place Visit the sick, feed the hungry, and set free the captive The superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is like my superiority over the lowest among you When someone complained of an ailment It is from the Sunnah that if someone marries a virgin, he should stay with her (the virgin) for seven days and then divide the nights between them. But if he marries a previously married woman, he should stay with her for three days, then divide the nights (between his wives) The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning the daughter of Hamzah: She is not lawful for me (to marry). That which is unlawful due to lineage (blood relation) is unlawful due to breastfeeding. She is the daughter of my foster-brother. Allāhumma qini ‘adhābaka yawma tajma‘u or tab‘athu ‘ibādak (O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You gather or resurrect Your servants) On sighting the new moon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would say: O Allah, let this new moon appear on us with security and faith While a man was reciting Sūrat al-Kahf, with his horse tied with two ropes beside him When one-third of the night had passed, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would get up and call out: O people, remember Allah The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to strive to fast on Mondays and Thursdays The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge (with Allah) against the Jinn and the evil eye The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to break his fast before praying by having three fresh dates A Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) Abu Bakr As-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave who used to give him a portion of his daily income as the master's share. Abu Bakr used to eat the food bought with that share Al-‘Adbā', the Prophet's she-camel, was never outrun When we ascended (a high land), we used to say Takbīr, and when we descended, we used to say Tasbīh O people, do not trouble yourselves too much. He Whom you are calling is not deaf or absent. Verily, He is with you, He is All-Hearing and Ever Near You have been endowed with one of the melodious voices of the family of Dawūd If I am invited to a meal of a sheep's trotter or arm, I would accept the invitation He used to serve his family. But when the time for prayer came, he would go out to the prayer I have never touched plain or woven silk softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) No Muslim visits a (sick) Muslim early in the morning but seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him There is a Sūrah in the Qur’an consisting of thirty verses. It interceded for a man until he was forgiven Whoever acquires knowledge that should be pursued for the sake of Allah Almighty for the sole purpose of securing worldly gains shall not smell the ‘Arf of Paradise on the Day of Judgment Of the people who live the best kind of life is the man who holds the reins of his horse in the way of Allah Whoever follows a path in pursuit of knowledge, Allah will facilitate for him a path to Paradise Whoever says "there is no god but Allah, and Allah is Greatest," his Lord affirms it, saying: There is no god but Me, and I am Greatest When Allah wants to punish a people, the punishment befalls whoever is among them, then they will be resurrected according to their deeds O Allah, I ask You to help me do good deeds and abstain from evil ones, to grant me the love of the poor and needy, and to forgive me and have mercy on me. And if it is Your Will that you put some people to trial (regarding their faith), then make me die without being put to that trial. I ask You to grant me Your Love, the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds that bring me closer to Your Love Abu Sālih used to order us that if anyone of us wanted to sleep, he should lie on his right side When Allah fashioned Adam in Paradise, He left him as long as He desired to leave him. Satan started to go round Adam looking at him. Once he saw that Adam had a hollow body, he realized that he was a weak creature Anyone among you stays behind and takes good care of the family and property of a warrior (in the cause of Allah) will receive half the reward of the warrior Anyone falsely claims to be the son of other than his father, knowing that he is not his father, will be forbidden to enter Paradise Do not disown your fathers. Whoever disowns his father has disbelieved The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessing be upon him) mentioned the Anti-Christ one morning, (sometimes describing him) to be insignificant and at other times important, till we thought that he might be amidst a cluster of date-palms The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) never struck anything with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, except when he was fighting in the cause of Allah No invading group or detachment sets out to fight in the cause of Allah and gets its share of the booty and returns safe and sound, but it has been given two-thirds of its reward in this world. On the other hand, no invading group or detachment returns defeated and injured but it will receive its full reward in the Hereafter He who sets free a Muslim slave, Allah will deliver from the fire of Hell every part of his body in return for every part of the slave's body, even his private parts Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah shall put between him and Hellfire a trench as wide as the distance between the heavens and the earth He who washes a dead person and conceals what he sees, Allah will grant him forgiveness forty times If anyone does not fight in the cause of Allah, equip a warrior in the cause of Allah, or stay behind to look after a warrior's family, Allah shall afflict him with a calamity before the Day of Judgment This is mercy that Allah, the Exalted, has placed in the hearts of His slaves. Verily, Allah shows mercy to those of His slaves who are merciful Have you ever experienced a day harder than the day of (the battle of) Uhud? He replied: Indeed, I have suffered a lot at the hands of your people, the harshest of which was what they did to me on the Day of Al-‘Aqabah Indeed, when Allah loves a slave, He calls Jibrīl (Gabriel) and says: I love so-and-so, so love him. So, Gabriel loves him If the slave draws closer to Me by a hand-span, I shall draw closer to him by a cubit; and if he draws closer to Me by a cubit, I shall draw closer to him by the span of two outstretched arms. If he comes to Me walking, I shall come to him running While a man was walking on a path, he found a thorn branch on the road, so he put it aside. Allah, thus, thanked him and forgave him I felt some feebleness in the voice of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and perceived that it was due to hunger; so have you anything with you?
