‘Ā'ishah and ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibrīl kept enjoining the good treatment of the neighbor to the extent that I thought he would include the neighbor as an heir."

Explanation

Jibrīl continuously urges me to take care of the neighbor until I thought that he would come with divine revelation instructing that the neighbor be among the heirs.

Benefits from the Hadith

  1. Neighbors have such a great right, and it must be observed.
  2. As the neighbor’s right is emphasized through frequent recommendation, this entails that we should honor him, treat him in a friendly and kind manner, visit him if he gets sick, congratulate him upon the occurrence of something pleasant, and give him solace if a disaster strikes.
