عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «من تَشبَّه بقوم، فهو منهم». [حسن] - [رواه أبو داود وأحمد] المزيــد ...
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." Hasan/Sound. - [Abu Dawood]
This Hadīth has a general indication; whoever emulates the righteous is righteous and will be gathered with the righteous on the Day of Resurrection. Likewise, whoever emulates the disbelievers or the impious is a follower of their ways and belongs to them.
Means are subject to the same rulings applying to objectives. Outward imitation brings about love inwardly.
The rulings related to imitation of the disbelievers cannot be put together in a detailed manner, for the rulings differ according to the difference of the nature of imitation and the involved evils, particularly at this age. So, every case should be assessed against the Shar‘i texts.
The prohibition regarding imitation of the disbelievers is meant to forbid us from imitating them in matters related to their religion and peculiar habits. Other things, like learning professions and so on, do not fall under this prohibition.
