عَنْ أَبِي عَبْسٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:
«مَا اغْبَرَّتْ قَدَمَا عَبْدٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَتَمَسَّهُ النَّارُ».

Abu ‘Abs ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Jabr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Anyone whose feet get covered with dust in the cause of Allah will not be touched by the Fire."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave glad tidings that whoever gets his feet covered with dust while striving in the cause of Allah, the Fire will not touch him.

Benefits from the Hadith

  1. It bears glad tidings for the one who makes Jihad in the cause of Allah that he will be saved from Hellfire.
  2. He mentioned the feet in particular, although dust covers the whole body because most of those who made Jihad at that time were fighting on foot, and so the feet got covered with dust in all cases.
  3. Ibn Hajar said: If the feet are forbidden from the Fire for merely being touched by dust, then how about the one who worked hard and exerted himself and did his best?!
