عن عدي بن حاتم عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (اليهود مغضوب عليهم، والنصارى ضُلَّال).
[صحيح] - [رواه الترمذي]

‘Adyy ibn Hātim (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Jews are people who incurred Allah's wrath, and the Christians are astray."
Sahih/Authentic. - [At-Tirmidhi]

Explanation

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Jews are people who incurred Allah's wrath, and that of the prophets, the believers, and the angels. And the Christians are astray. This is included in the interpretation of Surat al-Fātihah, the verse saying: {Not of those who incurred Your Wrath, or of those who went astray.} The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that those who incurred Allah's wrath are the Jews, and those who went astray are the Christians. We implore Allah Almighty in prayer every day to guide us to the straight path and that we should not follow the way of the Jews or the Christians. If a Muslim possesses knowledge but does not act upon it, he bears some resemblance to the Jews; and whoever worships Allah with ignorance bears some resemblance to the Christians.
