"By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, there is nobody of this Ummah (community), whether they be Jewish or Christian, who hears of me and then dies without believing in what I was sent with except that he will be among the people of Hellfire."

"I was granted five that none before me was granted*: I was granted victory through terror from a distance of one month's journey; the earth has been made for me a mosque and a means of purification, so any man from my Ummah who is caught up by the prayer should pray; the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, although they were not lawful for anyone before me; I have been granted the intercession; and a prophet used to be sent to his people in specific, whereas I have been sent to all people."

While we were sitting with the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in the mosque, a man came riding on a camel. He made his camel kneel in the mosque, tied its foreleg, and said: "Who amongst you is Muhammad?" At that time, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting amongst us, leaning on his arm. We replied: "This white man reclining on his arm." The man then addressed him: "O son of ‘Abdul-Muttalib!" The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am here to answer you." The man said to the Prophet: "I want to ask you something and will be hard in questioning. So do not get angry." The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask whatever you want." The man said: "I ask you by your Lord, and the Lord of those who came before you. Has Allah sent you as a messenger to all mankind?" The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "By Allah, yes." The man further said: "I ask you by Allah. Has Allah ordered you to offer five prayers in a day and night?" He replied: "By Allah, yes." The man further said: "I ask you by Allah. Has Allah ordered you to observe fasts during this month of the year?" He replied: "By Allah, yes." The man said: "I ask you by Allah. Has Allah ordered you to take this charity from our rich people and distribute it amongst our poor people?" The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "By Allah, yes." Thereupon, that man said: "I have believed in all that you have been sent with, and I have been sent by my people as a messenger. @ I am Dimām ibn Tha‘labah, from the brothers of Banu Sa‘d ibn Bakr."

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) received divine revelation at the age of forty.* He spent 13 years in Makkah. Then, he was commanded to immigrate, and he immigrated to Madīnah, where he stayed for 10 years. Then, he (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) passed away.

I used to write down everything I heard from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in order to memorize it. The Quraysh prohibited me, saying: "Do you write down everything that you hear from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) is a human being who speaks in anger and pleasure?" So, I stopped writing and mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Thereupon, he pointed his finger to his mouth and said: "@Write down; for by the One in Whose Hand my soul is, nothing comes out of it except the truth."
