As-Sā'ib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the battle of Tabūk to Madīnah, the people received him and I met him along with the children at Thaniyyat al-Wadā’. In another narration: "We went out along with the children to meet the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘."

Explanation

As-Sā'ib informed us that when the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the battle of Tabūk with the Companions, the people went out to meet him at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘, which is a place near Madīnah. They did so in order to make the Prophet and his Companions feel at ease and comfortable. Moreover, this good reception would encourage those who stayed behind to participate in the battle next time.
